My brother-in-law is by and large a porter/stout drinker. Maybe he'll slum it and have a Lion's head or Woodchuck Cider but he loves stouts. Imperials Stouts even better. You go over to his house and if there is any beer it is sure to be dark.

My question is: Does anyone else do this? Drink primarily only one style?

I know BMC drinkers by-and-large drink AAL but when it comes to beer my brother-in-law drinks mainly Imperial Stouts.

I do this more with two styles. Stouts and IPA's are pretty much all I drink but I like to throw in a saison, quad, and others when the mood strikes. Gotta keep some variety in your life.

No way. I also don't eat only one style of food or wear the same outfit everyday.

My main go to beers are ambers, pale ale's and IPA's. I find that a majority of the time I drink these styles out of all others. That's not to say that I haven't tried and won't drink or buy other styles. But nine out of ten times these are what I purchase. I love that hop bite over any malty sweetness some other styles provide. Stouts and porters or any other beer with a coffee note to it are a different story. Hardly ever pick up any of these anymore. I can't stand coffee and can't get past the taste of it in my beers no matter how hard I have tried. Drink what you like!

I agree with you guys. Variety..etc etc. He says he doesn't like IPAs because he "doesn't want to drink grapefruit."

Give him a Scotch Ale/Wee Heavy or a Smoked Beer and he may switch it up some.

I like variety, and I love trying examples from new styles. That said, I'm typically on a 6-month rotation between malty, roasty, dark, thick stouts and porters and heavy Belgian styles in the cooler months and crisp, hoppy, lighter pales, IPAs, wheats, etc in the warmer months. Right now, I'm returning to hops with a vengeance. Although I love stouts, one sounds totally unappealing to me right now.

About some stouts I say that I don't want to drink milky sludge.

I think I could only drink beers from the country of Belgium for the rest of my life if that counts.

Say I get a mix-a-six pack. A good solid 4 of those will be stouts, ipa/iipas, or barleywines. Then I'll throw in a quad or a trippel, or maybe a hefe or doppelbock. So, there are styles I definitely lean towards, but this could just be winter talking.

I think it would be a waste of time to join a community like BA and not be a BA.
