Went to send one off today and the lady started getting curious. I usually say "jarred pickles" or "salsa" and have no problems. Despite my assuring her it was double boxed, double bagged, and packaged to perfection, she insisted on opening it to check. She was not happy when she found the contents (but she was impressed with how I packaged it) and started lecturing. It had already gone through the system, so I got an email confirmation that the package had been voided and I see my card was refunded of the shipping. I took the package and went on my merry way, but my question is this: Is my account now "flagged" with UPS? It is slightly inconvenient to go to FedEx, but I will now make the switch because of this incident. In hindsight, I guess it is better to say the contents are something other than glass. Anyone else have a similar experience with an overly nosey UPS employee?

You live in a strange country! In Holland only the customs guys are allowed to open a parcel. I have never had one of the postal people checking the contents.

I had a similar experience the other day. I work in two different cities and live in another, so sometimes depending on where I am working I will ship out of a different UPS store for convenience. The other day I went to ship a package with my usual speal about what was inside, and the kid at the counter (like 20 years old) decided he wanted to question why I ship out of different stores all the time. I told him the truth - it is more convenient when I work, and he literally looked at me and said "thats sketchy."

He ended up shipping it off but I mean, cmon dude, who are you? If I was a 20 year old working at the UPS store I wouldn't give two shits about what was being sent as long as it didn't blow me up.

Why didn't you take your package back so she couldn't open it?

UPS and FedEx are private companies, not tied to the government postal system. Their rules.

I was already to the parking lot when I got the call asking me to come back and get my package. I was just worried I wouldn't get it back. There was some good stuff in there!

Ik know, but that sucks also. In Holland we have what we call the 'the postal secret'. Tham means that no one is allowed to open letters and parcels other than police when investigating end customs. When i ship my parcels no one checks the contents, only the weight.

And the same thing happens in Scotland (and the UK and Northern Ireland) when I ship to the Netherlands or anywhere else in the European Union.

I really feel for NoLeafCLover44 and TWStandley. Total BS.

I haven't used it myself, but does anyone use home pickup through Fedex? I would think that could be an option for you.

The first time I went into my local ups store I asked them about shipping alcohol. They pretty much said that as long as it's already in a box they didn't care.

Yeah, I got the vibe that this lady just took her job waaaaaaay to seriously. She kept prying me with questions until she finally accepted the package, only to open it a few minutes later. Something along the lines of "I could call the police if I wanted to" was uttered. She was just nosey and power hungry.

Man, that sucks. I've never had a single issue @ the FedEx where I drop off. I've never even been asked the contents.

At my UPS they make you log in to your account from their computer to print your label. One of the required fields is package contents. Really annoying.

Get a fedex online account. Make the shipment online and enter in the weight and dimensions etc. Pay online with a debit card. I just walk in and out, they print the label for me and I have never had any problems.

I pay/print before I drop it of at fedex and they don't say anything other than "would you like a receipt". No hassles

Thanks for the suggestions. Sounds like FedEx is the way to go. I guess I should invest in a scale.
