I will be getting off work soon and going home to drink an IPA. Sounds great right? Here's my dilemma:
I have a bomber of Hop Stoopid that I was planning on drinking first, but after reading about how great Dark Horse Double Crooked Tree is, I want to drink that (have it at home as well). Now, I have no problem drinking both over the course of the evening, but will it not be true on my palate? Will I not be able to truly taste the second one due to the hop overload?
Is there a way to really cleanse my palate? What do you think?

By the way I realize that this is a ridiculous problem to consider while I'm at work (or anywhere for that matter haha) but as I watch my kids taking a test, my mind wanders toward the anticipation of the glorious hop assault I have planned for this evening, and, hey, this is Beer Advocate...

Hop Stoopid is extremely common, I'd drink the Double Crooked Tree first.

I would convince myself to drink Hop Stupid, then drink the DCT after because I really wanted it. So, be smart and just drink the DCT, then Hop Stupid if you want a second.

Do yourself a solid and trade the Double Crooked Tree for a couple more bombers of Hop Stoopid.

If you take enough time in between you can cleanse it. Drink alot of water and eat some crackers and it should do the trick. Alternatively, you could always brush your teeth:wink:

Also, Hop Stoopid is everywhere and its cheap. If you feel like you missed out just buy another bottle

I'll chime in as an agreeable sort and enable your first world problem. Dark Horse.

There's always tomorrow. Enjoy one today as your first beer and the other one tomorrow as your first beer. You're welcome.

I don't think the hop overload would happen as much as you may think with both being doubles, if you want both I would try to drink the lower IBU first. I would personally would do the Double Crooked Tree alone. If you wish to cleanse your pallete I would recommend something like crackers or bread, try to avoid salty foods.

Cleanse your palate with a light sour. A Monk's Cafe Sour Flemish, or perhaps a Petrus Aged Pale will revitalize your palate.

Always look for ways to drink more beer, not less.

The very best palate cleanser is Busch light. No joke. It works better than water because it tastes worst and really will make you appreciate the second beer. The Busch light will cleanse your palate of any residual hop flavors and really help you appreciate the hop profiles in both beers, it also helps sober you up.

I tend to start with one smaller abv beer and then drink higher abv and then back to a lower abv. I've passed out on to many amazing and expensive beers to end the night with a big beer.
that being said, I'd crack the hop stoopid, have one, then go for the double crooked tree and back to the hop stoopid.

Drink either one, then take a break for 10 minutes... you'll be fine.. eat a bland piece of bread in between..

First world problems I know... BUT... with a solution

Frankinstiener has the right idea of cleansing the palate with the cheap stuff. I do it all the time almost everyday. It truly makes you appreciate the good stuff. I do it with Miller High Life or PBR.
