Yes, we all know the almighty Heady Topper is one of the best DIPAs out there, but all I want to know is does Heady Topper vary in taste? They make the stuff all of the time, they have to mess up a batch or 2 once in awhile. anyway, I have tasted a noticeable difference in the batch I bought recently than the mind blowing batch I had the first time. anyone else taste differences in each batch you've tried?

Maybe you were so blown away by the first tasting that by the second time you were more used to it?

I think there is a noticeable difference from a 2 day old topper to a 2 week old topper. In my head? maybe..but I assumed the recipe doesnt change. its measured properly. how would it go bad? I dont see a place like the alchemist who is obviously about quality canning an iffy batch.

There was a joke at a tasting I went to a litte more than a weak ago. The guy said "I think it is time for The Alchemist to start brewing other things. I think they got the whole Heady Topper thing right by now"

i guess not so much a joke but it was still funny

Whoa! did i say "bad"? no way jose. different yes. the first batch I had was full of juicy hops, the second. not so much. it was sweeter. idk maybe my palate should take a hiatus from all the DIPAs. on second thought naaaah. need more hops!
the alchemist isn't a machine, they are people. you don't think for one second that they could make an iffy batch by simple human error? really??

It's possible your first can was significantly fresher than your second which allowed the hop profile to fade a little and the malts to be more present? Idk, just a guess

I noticed some variation in the cans I had. They varied in degrees of awesomeness. I need to get some more.

ABSOLUTELY! I go up all the time and they vary as much as any beer I regularly drink. Some of the batches will take the enamel off of your teeth, while the polar opposite batches(my personal favs) drink like a hoppy pale ale and go down so easy. They fall all along the spectrum in between. We joke about getting up there, taking a taster at the counter and immediately knowing if its going to be a trade batch or keeper batch. That's why it's so tough to really judge different beers without having a few batches.
