Acronyms are needed in the subject line due to the character limit. I don't click on threads that say " ISO: SEE INSIDE / FT: SEE INSIDE ". Acronyms there too, oops. I guess it should be " IN SEARCH OF: SEE INSIDE / FOR TRADE: SEE INSIDE "

How exactly is posting a cellar link an auction?

ISO: beer X FT: Cellar link

basically means to me that I want one particular beer, not sure what you want, but here's everything I have to offer. Not really an auction if I'm only asking for one specific beer.

    Now if the post were....

ISO: what's in ur cellar bruh!!11! FT: beer X

    Then that's an auction.

If I remember correctly (not going to use the acronym) it was due to some legal reasons that the name had to later be called Bourbon County BRAND stout, since it was not actually from the Bourbon County region

In most cases its done because the poster is too lazy to figure out an appropriate trade. Then when five people send a message the poster can pick whomever chose the weakest bottle on the list and tell the others someone else sent a message first. At least that's how I think it works.

Eventually all English will devolve into some form of ridiculous Facebook/texting speak.

I always assumed the word "brand" was there for legal reasons, never heard anyone in the city of Chicago use the word brand when talking about Bourbon County.

How is that different than I just list 20 bottles in the post and I get several trade offers for different bottles on the list. I'm not obligated to trade with the first guy who messages me. I like to do a little research on who I trade with. I look at their posts/how they conduct themselves on the forums, etc. Other factors such as time on BA, trade-history, prior trading partner, shipping distance, all come into play when weighing alternatives on who I want to trade with.

Acronyms are fine in ISO's and BM titles, but the beer really should be spelled out clearly up front in trade offers and negotiations to remove any confusion.

Acronyms and shorthand beer names really are getting ridiculous around here. I've seen a few people use "Kopi" - there's a lot of beers out there made with Kopi...

A cellar link is just lazy and a masked auction. Listing 20 bottles is kind of lazy but i would agree is appropriate for some trades.

I disagree. I want to put as many options out there that gets me what I'm looking for. If it put my cellar link out there, everything is on the table - unless I specifically have it marked not for trade.

I agree that sometimes acronyms are ridiculous. On the other hand, with some of these beers (YB, DQ, HotD, DDG, etc.), it's a "if you have to ask" type thing. And personally, I would hate typing out "Bourbon Barrel Fourth Dementia" or "Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon Barrel Aged Dark Lord".

We are a community and we have our own lingo to help us communicate more efficiently. However, if we create arbitrary acronyms without properly incorporating them into the culture, it's counter-productive.

Sorry if I'm '2012'-ing it up...

I keep seeing CR being used to reference Cherry Rye as well as Chocolate Rain. For some reason, that one gets on my nerves. It's not that hard to type Cherry Rye and Chocolate Rain has always been CR (since it was released at least).

Buffalo Trace Eclipse being called BT is another that always gets me. So many headaches can be avoided by some clarity and common sense.
