And also someone you most likely wouldnt want to trade with I would expect.

Tough to call someone a bad trader when no trade, but if you start a LIF you gotta send. Actually happened to me at the time of the site change, I assumed he lost my info. Didn't make any attempt to have him make good. He no longer is a member, so you could say that flaking out on a LIF is a good indicator of someone to be careful with in general.

I was gonna ask the same thing. OP, you said:

So this means he's still communicating. If so, I'd say stay in touch and only out him if you lose that communication.

Are you sure he HASN'T shipped the beer? Going through the postal services, rather than UPS or FedEx, doesn't provide a tracking number. You can get a customs number but can't really track it. Also, it takes SEVERAL weeks at least to get a package from Europe.

It can take several weeks. Most packs I've had coming from overseas (beer and otherwise) have arrived in 5-10 days. I've had a record take close to five weeks. It's definitely a toss up.

To clarify, there has been some communication ongoing. I've twice checked in to see if anything had shipped or was on the way as I was heading out of town for a week and being winter in WI, beer sitting on the porch runs the chance of freezing if we get a real cold snap. Both inquires were met with responses as to why it had not yet shipped which was perfectly fine as I think it is a dick move to go and demand my free beer when I didn't lose anything in the process. The most recent contact was about 6 weeks ago at which point I was told the weather overseas was responsible for the box not yet shipping. I thought that was a bit odd but understandable as I know a huge snowstorm etc can mess things up for a bit. However, the lack of any proactive updates leaves a bit to be desired. To go ask where my free beer is for a third time also seems like a big dick move. Again, this is not at all the same as a trade not being fulfilled. BUT I do see the point that hosting a LIF gives the impression to the rest of the BA community that you are a good and generous BA (which I certainly believe to be the case here regardless). So, if hosting the LIF gets you a certain amount of goodwill, I tend to think it is also worth letting the community know that it wasn't followed through on. Again, no harm to me, I'm not out a thing, but more of a heads up to guys in the future potentially.

Sounds like a gpawned move if I ever heard of one.

Wow... very disheartening stuff. I never would have thought that this is a common problem.

I'd say that's a bullshit move unless the perpetrator explains his lack of mojo in the original LIF thread.

well doing a little (and I mean minimal) research it is easy to figure out who the person is that has not shipped yet due to ElderPuma posting

p.s. it has been 3 months, not 4, though that is still not an excuse. Also, I would do as others said and confirm he has not shipped, as international shipping can take a long time. Plus I can see how weather can hold things up. No matter what the person running the LIF should not have started it unless he was able to ship without issue (including weather).

A group of people (including myself) were stiffed on a LIF a couple years back but I just let it go. I wrote it off as a drunken post that someone regretted and chose to ignore...I don't remember who it was though.

I've taken part of 2 LIFs now in which a winner was never announced. Those are almost as disappointing. I wouldn't put those traders on the bad trader list, but neither would I want to trade with them now, either.

Here to issue a public apology to ElderPuma, I was just informed of this via PM link. And to think I actually just only sent him a BM a couple minutes ago, notifying him of the fact I was hopefully getting round to sending him his stuff soon. Can only imagine how sucky it most feel, the only LIF I ever had a chance of winning actually died.

Excuse-wise, I can only say I let this run its course for way too long. This was always put to the side as something on the "to-do list" since it was "only a free prize". With my new full-time job, this was pushed down even further, and alluvasudden, that's 4 months gone.

I'll more than make up for it, buddy  I can only give you my sincerest of apologies, but that won't help one bit until I get the beer out soon, which I promise I will

Will also be taking a seriously long break from trading after the stuff I have going on now, bit scary to see how quick people are to get the torches and pitchforks out. If I had the intention of not sending my winner the beer (which I never did), I would have personally notified him of this. The fact it took way too long because of multiple factors is entirely my fault, but frankly I'm a bit insulted to be called out and labelled a fraud over something like this.

I'm not asking for sympathy, leave alone pity, but for a proper night's sleep I feel it's better to vent. And yes, that's partially anger at myself.

Thanks to everyone who kept their heads straight and gave valid options. I hope we can put this behind us without being permanently branded as a "douche" here.

I'll happily be your only trading partner. Screw em all. :-D

(although, I can't promise that I won't use torches and pitchforks occasionally to make you to send me more awesome beer... that could be amusing).

To be perfectly clear, I have no ill will and never meant any towards Dennis. Like I said before, it is a pretty dick move, in my opinion, to go around demanding free beer from anyone, regardless of the circumstances. I had hoped this thread would be more of an education around the expected etiquette of a LIF and how it should be fulfilled but as with anything some things probably went a bit too far on the negative end. The opinions from the community are probably much appreciated by everyone, as after all this is a community, but if Dennis caught any unwarranted heat or had his reputation tarnished in any way I personally apologize for that. I have no reason at all to not believe he is an exceptional BA. I know I get busy and am sure every BA on here has had a time in life in which shipping beer (especially the free variety) just wasn't at the top of their priority list. Screwing someone over on a trade is one thing. Not fulfilling a LIF is completely different. Sure if it goes unfulfilled forever maybe that BA got some goodwill that wasn't warranted but no harm no foul. Again, Dennis seems like a great BA and he had more than one guy step up to the plate and offer to make it right on his part which I think tells you all you need to know. Not that there is anything to made right on something like this.

Hopefully we all learned something at that is the end of this. More importantly, I hope Dennis has not any negative impact by all of this. Sometime in the near future I hope to run a LIF in response to all of this that more or less pokes fun at this whole thing. But until then Cheers!

Interesting...I've received LIF winnings from 8 people (plus 10/11 boxes for a Fantasy Football LIF/BIF). I've sent 7 boxes to others for LIFs and BIFs and have already promised 2 others that they have boxes to come (though admittedly those have been a long time coming, much longer than I intended...but that stipulation was given up front that all boxes would be sent at the end). I intend to send a bunch more boxes by the time my LIF is over and make good on all of my obligations and then some.

Seems like about as much of a dick move to imply that I never send anything...as my delays in completing my overly-ambitious, overly-complicated, and long-running LIF are.

In addition, I've stayed in touch with the participants of my LIF(s) and on a number of recent occasions when I've won a LIF, I asked the organizer to sent to proceeds to others (since that seemed like the right thing to do, considering my outstanding LIF debts).

On top of that I've never defaulted on a trade.

More Logical LIFs to come. More boxes to be sent. More heckling, I'm sure.

As soon as the package hits I'll post the haul for all to see......and then figure out how to turn this into some fun part of a LIF in the near future
