In the old & not-so-old days, I've had people pick up limited releases for me, & gotten a couple of excellent long-term trading partners out of the deal to boot.

So: when did asking for someone to pick something up become mock-worthy?

I've seen this phrase bandied about with venom on par with e-bayers, line cutters, & truck chasers. I can understand if it's an entitlement issue ("Damn, why won't some you local yokels pick it up fer me, yo!??!"), but otherwise, I don't get why this is so looked down upon.

    I await enlightenment.

If the limit allows, you can buy whatever you want. If your FRIEND is paying you what you paid for it, what's the difference?

We can't all take every release day off to chase trucks around trying to find a beer. I have sent and recieved plenty of texts from inside a liquor store regarding special releases, and Im not ashamed  ive actually recently made a friend on here who attended a tasting with me the first time we met. I try to keep an eye out for him and he does the same for me

Had one of my best friends stop at kuhnhenn today and pick me up a few KRE's, First Gold Rush Barleywines, and some 4D. It's 3 minutes away from his grocery store. I give 0 fucks if people get mad that I personally didn't pick it up and drive 6 hours and my friend drives 3 minutes!

There is nothing wrong with asking friends or trade partners to goandpickitupformebro, it's when you ask random people to do it is where the ridicule comes in.

See my mailbox after BA catches wind of a Bell's release. I am sure a few other Kalamazoo BAs can confirm their boxes blow up too. I am not offended by the random messages but the quantity is a bit ridiculous.

How come? If somebody says they're going to a release, & they're not buying all of their bottles, how is this any different than a random trade offer out of the blue?

Nothing wrong with what you do. However, if you set up a several mules to buy 100 out of a 500 limited release and flaunt it on the internet, I will hunt you down and say very bad things to your face, bro!

I use this term literally some times when my Brother goes to work in philly. I want some two hearted, its more canyougopickitupformebro? than gopickitupformebro, I don't enjoy telling people what to do. As far as friends, I have absolutely no problem getting something if they want it and I'm in that area to get it. Big John soon enough my friend.

The one time I bought half a case of BCBCS without hesitation, I called a friend telling him how great of a find it was and he asked if he could have one and I said yes. Would I have loved to have all to myself, sure. Its all about sharing and I sure do enjoy helping good people drink good beer. It all comes full circle.

I feel incredibly lucky and thankful for the few BAs who have more or less done this for me. I know that trading is what people really want to do, but I just don't have the time or money to do so right now. A lot of dang beers out there I want to try; I know there's always plenty of good and new to me beers by me, and trust me, I indulge in them as well, but who doesn't like out of distro area variety? :grinning:

This sums it up for me. Not a fan of gopickitupformebro unless it's family or whatever. If you can't be bothered to trade for stuff, it's just plain lazy.

School and the expenses of such are my obstacle. :slight_frown: Don't wanna end up on the bad traders list, ha.

The comment wasn't directed at you. It does suck to be low on funds, trust me I was there. It is cool for other BAs to help a brother but at the same time though, drinking beers from other parts of the world isn't a necessity.

It's the people that want massive quantities of limited stuff that kind of annoys me. I personally wouldn't ask anyone to do that, but that's just me.

Personally, I don't think it's mock-worthy. I pride myself on #goingtopickitupbro for my SoCal Whales, Bro friends. I know they're not using me or feel bad when they ask me to get beer. I'd much rather get great beer for us to share because I know they're busy versus not drinking it at all.

    Now that's a good question.

Actually, I'm old, so I don't even know where it started.

Back in the day I thought we just called it muling? (and it didn't necessarily have a negative connotation as it was typically a "you scratch my back I scratch yours kind of setup").

I think a large number of us had folks randomly "goandpickitupformebro" for Beatification Batch 5, Framboise for the Cure, Allagash Resurgam, or any number of staggered multiple day releases where no one was shut out of the beer unless they waited too long.

What do you call this phenomenon among a tasting group? (IE my friends go to Kuhnhenn, don't want their full allocation of Mississippi Mud / Gold Rush and pick up a few for me). This happens all the time in my extended tasting group (and was exemplified by a great local BA picking up about $200 worth of extra bottles to distribute at a tasting a couple weeks back).

All interesting questions that show how much trading has changed in the past few years.

    Cheers!

I have Private messaged a couple people that posted that they were going to or just got back from Vermont to get Heady Topper if they could pick me up some with no luck. All were very nice one didnt have any room one went and they were sold out and the other just wanted to trade but I just wanted to buy it. I figured it was worth a shot because I don't go up there at all
