Just looking for the trading audience to weigh in on this...I've seen quite a few threads talking about how bad cellar links are and how offering quantity for quality isn't a good idea, but why? Please see the example below.

    FT (All of These):
    - 2010 Dark Lord
    - 2013 Boulevard Rye-On-Rye
    - 2012 Brooklyn Black Ops
    - Bourbon Barrel Aged 4 Calling Birds
    - Mikkeller Barrel Aged Chipotle Porter
    - 2012 Lost Abbey Angel's Share - Bourbon
    - 2012 BB Plead the 5th
    - Ballest Point Coffee Vanilla Imperial Porter
    - Central Water BBS
    - RR Damnation (375ml)

    ISO (One of These):
    - BCBVS
    - HotD Matt
    - HotD AftW
    - Rare
    - 100% BA Coton

Again not looking for comments on whether the example should get done or not. I already got crickets on that ISO, just looking for opinions on whether the practice is poor form. Cheers!

I don't think it's poor form, I just think they're very unlikely to happen.

It's actually a great way to clear some room in your cellar. I've done this several times, in particular, to get bottles of Utopias. The downside, even though you may be offering way over $4$ and volume, these trades are often hard to make. Just post them and see what happens.

So you were willing to give up all those bottles for one single bottle?

Yep. I know the whole argument about why would you give all that good beer away for a single bottle? But I like what i like, and i've had all those before. But since i had vanilla recently at a buddies tasting, i'd probably scratch that from the list.

But yes, i was willing to give up the entire first list for a single bottle off the second list. Still...crickets, hence my poll.

Dang, I really don't wanna trade either of my two remaining Matt's but your offer is very tempting.

HAHA, I just didn't want to steal your idea. Plus...I know for a fact i'm an asshole, my wife tells me every night before we go to sleep.

In all seriousness though, I did read the banning cellar links in ISO posts thread, one of the reasons why i had this little spin off.

Honestly, I feel these types of ISO's were completed more (imo) a few years ago. Coincidentally I used to do over $4$ trades with quantity for quality to help build up my cellar at the start. Granted I lived in CA at the time and had access to a very nice beer store that got decent limited CA releases...however, I just don't see much of what I got in the past happening now, especially because of the instawhales and what not (MIDWEST 4 LIFE YO! [not really])

I would have done that in a second for AFTW (and still would), but I never even clicked on the ISO thread because of the "IP Chicago preferred" in the title. That might have been part of your issue. (That said, I understand not wanting to ship all of that for just one bottle, too.)

Not poor form at all. I know it's not the popular prevailing method of trading on BA, but I often prefer to be on the receiving end of a bunch of beer I know I can enjoy multiple times over (often regardless of rarity) for something rarer. I guess I don't consult my Beckett enough:wink:

I voted "yes" mainly because I wanted to see what 3.6% looked like on that graph.

    Two observations:

    1. If you offer a "pick-em" of quantity for quality, you will get a lot of posts telling you it can't get done because you are trying to "trade up". But you might get lucky and find someone willing to make the deal.

    2. If you offer a rare/quality bottle for a pick-em of good quantity, you will be accused of holding an auction. But you will undoubtedly get multiple offers.

    Poor decision.

You could uptrade all of those bottles of beer for a PVW Eclispe, which you could then find the right person who desperately needs to complete a vertical and uptrade that bottle away for a M, and then you could take that bottle of M and trade it away for 200 bottles of BCBVS.

That is how you win BA sir. Are you new here?
