Problems with a Trader (and apparently I'm not the first)

I pended a trade with a veteran trader on this site and he said he was going to ship last Tuesday 2/26. I hear from him Thursday that he's running late with it. I tell him it's fine and ask him when he can ship. He says he'll send it Friday or Saturday and I should have it by Wednesday at the absolute latest. On Saturday he messages me and says he received my package and he has his by the door ready to go out Monday morning. Monday night comes, I ask for a tracking number, he says he had to work and it will go out Tuesday. I ask for a tracking number Tuesday, no response and haven't heard from him since.

This is especially frustrating since the trader knows I'm going on vacation in a few days and needed the package before then. I've also since noticed that a thread was made about this same trader last year that was almost word for word the trouble I'm having. The trader has logged on since multiple times and was listed as engaged in conversation last night but hadn't responded to my messages.

I realize it may be a bit early to be posting about this which is why I haven't mentioned his name, but I'm concerned since he's blatantly ignoring me and apparently has done it before. Am I jumping the gun on this one? This trader had 2 weeks to get a package to me before I go on vacation that should only take one day to deliver through FedEx. I talked to the two traders that had trouble with him in last fall and it seemed the only way to get anything done was bring it to the forums.

I'm assuming you intentionally left him as an "in-progress" on your profile? Not that most of us didn't already know who you were talking about.

    Shoot, that wasn't intentional.

I don't know who the trader is or what his situations is, but I come off as a flake often. I have a company vehicle that I can not transport alcohol in, therefore the time window is very narrow to get to a shipping location. Because of the type of business that I work for it is not unusual for a shipment to be delayed by no fault of my own, because of work obligations. Most people I trade with understand, some have no patience for it at all. I get it, but come on it's bee,r have fun and don't get your blood pressure up over such a small thing, you will probably live longer.

I get it, and I'm typically very patient. I'm just irritated because the trader agreed to get that beer to me by a specific day I needed it and hasn't even bothered to let me know he couldn't. He's been browsing the forums quite a bit in the last couple days but hasn't messaged me.

As a newer trader (IMO, sub-30 trades), you should probably be looking closely into all of the people you trade with ahead of time. If you're uncomfortable with someone, you will want to consider the risks of sending to them if they're asking for you to send first.

Look at their profile, do a search for them on the forums, look at their previous posting history, see if there are any existing threads calling them out about not shipping, check the bad traders list, etc.

For me, even at this point I do a little bit of a reference check. If I've seen you on the forums a lot, if I've met you, if I know you're extremely active, if I know you have a good reputation among friends of mine, if you've traded with a number of my friends, I may not check anything. If I don't know you, I'm looking at your profile, I'm looking to see if you've traded with friends of mine (and I may ask them for a quick spot check), I'm looking at your activity and involvement in the community, I'm looking at our proposed trade (easy stuff or whales), I'm looking for any evidence that you won't ship me my beer. That's speaking as someone who has done a fair amount of trading. I've even had veteran traders contact me about my experience with another veteran trader before the two proceed (probably high stakes though, I usually don't ask).

Certainly going to be more careful now. We actually were supposed to send at the same time. He didn't tell me he had a delay until after I gave him the tracking number. This wasn't a super high stakes trade or anything, but there were a couple bottles I was really looking forward to. I suppose a lot of this frustrating me comes from my having nothing but good experiences here. Everyone else I've dealt with has had great communication. Even if they can't ship on time, they keep me updated so I know they haven't flaked out. Is it reasonable to post a link to the previous thread about this guy or give him a bit more time? I've noticed newer traders outing veteran ones on here doesn't always go so well.

The guy he's talking about was mentioned in one of those threads (OP initially forgot that the guy was a pending trade on his profile). There was a huge debate about whether he should or should have not been added to the bad trader list.

Veteran or not..that's to many excuses and shit poor trading habits... If it was ready to ship its as easy as leaving the package outside the door for them to pick up (fedex does) ..Am I the only lazy Bastard that has my outgoing packages picked up, to lessen a little hassle out of my busy life??? ..It might take putting his name out...because your nameis only as good as your worse trade.. OP, I hope it works out for you..

So he updated his profile so most people don't know the person he's being ambiguous about, and people elude to who the person in question is, without just outright naming him.

Why won't anyone just name the guy already, for the good of everyone?

What he says! The way it looks, he is a couple excuses into this trade so it's time to let it be known. Only you can help others avoid the same issue with the same person.

FWIW - I've met and completed an IP trade with the BA member in question. Was definitely a stand up guy and I would be very surprised if he did not come through. While it seems as though the communication could be better, its likely that something pressing came up.

Didn't the other thread just confirm he was a repeat poor communicator? He won't stiff the OP but he seems to browse BA more than he communicates with trade partners.

I had the same experience. I wouldn't trade with him again.
