Don't get me wrong, I love both, but if you had to choose one, in general, which do you think enhances beer the best? Wine Barrel aging or Bourbon Barrel aging?

Of course there are exceptions both ways, but in the general scheme of things.

I am not prepared to give a definitive answer to a question that does not allow for a accurate answer to be given. There are too many variables at play.

Stouts and barley wines? Bourbon barrel.
    Wilds, sours, saisons? Wine barrel.
Because of the vagueness of the poll I choose not to choose.

    My thoughts too.

I voted bourbon barrel because I prefer bourbon barrel stouts to wine barrel saisons/wilds/sours.

I guess I should have been more specific, I meant, do you think bourbon adds more to stouts, barley wines etc, or does wine add more to sours, saisons etc.

Generally, I think Bourbon/Whiskey barrels impart more of their own character on the base beer than wine barrels.

Depends on the style of beer in the barrel.

While I have allergies to wines I tend to prefer the barrel influence a bit more, especially on bigger beers i.e. barleywines, quads...BBN BA has turned me off quite a bit recently because the barrel influence has become to heavy. When I taste more bourbon than base beer there is something wrong and it makes me feel like someone is hiding something behind the booze.

No scientific evidence to prove this but I feel wine barrels tend to be more backseat letting the base beer shine more, using wine as a compliment versus a competitor. I always enjoyed the wine barrel OG's vs bourbon OG's and the texture/mouthfeel that wine provides is unmatched.

The latest round of wine barrel SN Ovila Dubbel's/Quad's just solidified my personal preference.

They should just put the bottled beer inside of the barrel to hide it from the light.

It's still considered barrel aged, right?

The only problem is that by not choosing we can not see what others have chose.

I choose to see what others chose.
