Stone's latest Quingenti Millilitre, Ruination IPA aged in Kentucky Bourbon barrels was released in small quantities today at Stone stores. I've heard it's pretty much all gone already. Does anyone know how many bottles were released? I'm surprised the trading posts aren't lighting up yet.

Sounds like a waste of good DIPA and bourbon barrels.

Is bourbon barrel aging getting out of control?

I'm certainly for more barrel aged DIPAs.

On the plus side, when this gets infected it won't taste much worse.

I wish they would rebrew the 10th Anniversary Ruiniation, instead of sticking the normal one in Bourbon barrels. That 10th Anny beer was amazing, and a highlight from 2012.

If I am offered a taste of Doom I will gladly try, but won't be spending money on that either.

Yeah I was a little puzzled when I saw the news for this . . . there are some DIPAs that might jive with spirit barrel aging (assuming it's dry-hopped to hell), but I'd imagine that they would be primarily big, malty bastards.

Ruination is not a big, malty bastard. Not in my opinion.

But, y'know. Like ethnic food and sex positions, I'm not going to rule anything out. Immediately, anyway.

There was a nice BA IPA from Island Brewing I tried a while back. But in that case, it was an average IPA getting BA'ed into a psuedo barleywine... Haha, anyway, it might be good.

More DIPAs need to be placed in tequila barrels, not bourbon.

Why does everyone on here bash beers that they haven't even tried yet, especially anything barrel aged that isn't a stout, barleywine, or sour? Just because something doesn't fit the archetype of what that style is (in this case a DIPA) doesn't automatically mean it's bad! Sure the flavor profile may be different from "standard" DIPAs, but that does not make it inherently bad! Hell as BAs I thought we were supposed to embrace experimentation and innovation! I personally will reserve judgement until I try it, if I ever get the chance. I think a lot of people on here would do well to do the same, not just for this particular beer, but for many others!

Although I'm interested in trying this beer, I agree. More beers like Zapata Bot please!
