I didn't think BA IPAs would be good. Then I had Heavy Seas Loose Cannon aged in Jameson Barrels. I'm now a believer

I want to try this side by side with Doom when it comes out. I'm heading down to Stone Friday and I really didn't they'd already be sold out. Bummer

+1. I thought Zapata Bot was going to be awful but ended up really enjoying it...I'd like to see more of this across the board.

I think it would ruin it. I'd try it, but I think it will be ruined. You can't get better than perfect.

How dare you use common sense and suggest not ripping a beer until you've tried it..

I'll try this (and Doom) if I see them in a store, but I honestly don't understand the logic of barrel aging IPA's. The point of an IPA is to showcase hops. Aging them dulls the hop profile. Aging them in bourbon barrels will dull it even more and will likely create a mess. (I'm not a fan of hoppy BA stouts or BA American barleywines, and I imagine BA IPA's will be worse.)

Maybe it will be great. I'm just skeptical based on my many experiences with DIPA's and BA beers.

For Doom (aka Hand of Doom), Founders dry hop it after the barrel, so hops are bright and up front.

I dunno, man. There are some sex positions I don't have to try to know they're not going to be something I would enjoy.

    Dear Stone,

Stop wasting your time with these schananagains. Pony up & bring 12 packs of IPA to all the retailers (grocery stores) you're currently in at a fair price. If Bear Rupublic can do it, I'm quite sure you can too.

    Cheers!

It's $18 for a 500mL bottle, I won't be taking a chance on that one. I've blown that sort of money on other shots in the dark, but the odds that this is worth the price of admission (for me) are quite low. I think it's still available here if anyone cares.

IMO the logic simply lies in creating something new. as noted in the post you replied to, nontraditional doesn't mean bad; it might be very different but very delicious. personally i love this kind of outside the box thinking by brewers... i'm guessing there were plenty of skeptics the first time a stout was aged in a barrel, too.

Has anyone grabbed one of these? Would love to trade for one, for some reason this is intriguing to me.
