I would love to be a Shorts fan. The concept behind so many of your beers is great. But time and again they seem to be infected, or if not infected, then just terrible in taste. To the extent there've been any exceptions to this rule, at has been when getting them on tap at Hopcat. But there is really no other brewery I've experienced where having a bottle ensures a miserable drinking experience. Hence my prior statement.

As far as infected bottles, I can assure you that for the past several years we've experienced no major infection issues. I know there is old beer floating around this state at some party stores so I urge you to check the code date located on the neck of the bottle in black ink. If it's indeed fresh and you still dislike the brew then so be it.

There are a lot of great places to drink beer in this state so I have no idea why Hopcat is the only place where you've enjoyed them...

I enjoy my beers at HopCat because of Emily, and I refuse to say anything else.

But everything you make is infected or sucks...lol..I mean the ridiculous long lines at shorts booth during every festival, packed bars at tap takeovers say that your beer stinks or is infected...Sigh...Sometimes, there is just no reason to respond to ridiculous posts..And now is probably the time..

Everyone is entitled to their own but if you rate Killian's a 4/10, Shock Top a 5/10, Sierra N Torpedo a 2/10, Hopslam 1/10.....I don't think we have any common ground to work from.
Short's is great at hits or misses but their hits are not almost like something else, they are usually unique.

I went back and looked at my notes. I've had 17 different beers from Short's in the bottle since the beginning of last year. For most of these beers, I bought at least 12, if not an entire case. None of them were infected. Not one single beer. If I had to guess, I'd say this is 150-200 beers. No infections. None.

Now, if you didn't like the taste, that's one thing. But you need to acknowledge that they were NOT infected. You just didn't like them. Also, it'd be helpful it you could list the actual beers you thought were "infected" and which ones you thought were "terrible in taste." I suspect you're full of shit, but I'd like to see which beers you didn't enjoy and why.

Having a bottle of Huma Lupa Liscious, of Freedom of '78, of Beach Wheat, of Bludgeon Yer Eye, of Cup a Joe, etc. has never provided me anything other than an enjoyable drinking experience.

What didn't you like about the Short's beers you've had? How would you rate them? If you had something listed other than almost 3,700 wants, that might be helpful. I really am genuinely curious what you disliked about these beers that so many other find enjoyable.

I don't normally like American wheat beers (a la Oberon or 312 - they're fine, but I don't seek them out) - but GB's Sunspot is a great summer beer, good on a hot day or with spicy food. They don't seem to use the Irish Moss (or what ever the clearing agent is) in a lot of their beers, and it works well with the Sunspot. And agree with some of the posts up above - Anger is the best version of a black IPA I have ever tried. Really hop forward. Beyond that, Distorter, 1825 and Bro Benjamin are great. Not that impressed with Dunegras or the Closure or Mr Hyde, but I'm always eager to stop off on exit 12 when commuting to or from Detroit and Chicago. They have a good spirit about them, and I hope they don't over-extend themselves with the distribution expansion. Nonetheless, as they say, good beer wins.

Because repeated negative experiences make me generally hesitant to order your beer anywhere. But, since Hopcat is by far my Michigan drinking spot of choice, it is where I'd most likely have Shorts beers. If, as you say, you've not experienced issues in the past several years, then I have simply hated most of what I've tried from Shorts.

Your needless hostility aside, I will answer your questions.

Which have I had? Bludeon Yer Eye (on tap), Carrot Cake (on tap), Cuppa Joe (bottle), Dripalicious (on tap), Imperial Soft Parade (bottle), Sour Puss (on tap), Strawberry Shortcake (bottle), Magician (Bottle), Uncle Steve's (bottle)

As to ratings, go back and check my damn profile. If you gave it a proper look, you would see a homepage link. And guess what? Ever damn beer I've had is rated there. So you can go check the scores if you care that much.

As to specific defects in flavor, I don't take notes on beer, and even if I did, I wouldn't have saved them. So I can't help you out there. What I can go by is memory. And I recall feeling as though Cuppa Joe, Strawberry Shortcake, the Magician, and Uncle Steve's were all infected. Is it possible they were just horrifyingly bad beers (other than Cuppa Joe, which was still mediocre)? Sure. I never discounted that possibility in previous posts. That they have had big QC control issues in the past is indisputable. Whether or not these are examples of it, I won't claim to speak authoritatively. All I can say is that Sour Puss is the only beer from them I would describe as good, and even then, just barely. Nothing else they've ever made that I've had rises above being mediocre. And there are damn sure enough other beers from breweries that don't chronically disappoint, that there's no need for me to keep spending money on them. My wishlist, which you brought up for no discernible reason, speaks perfectly well to that.

While I disagree with your opinions, almost completely, I am in (awe, shock, admiration and dumbfounded) that you have 3,682 "wants" and 0 "gots". That is an anomaly and a commitment process that my lazy ass would never be able to pull off.

Put simply, I stopped actively trading 1.5 to 2 years ago due to budget constraints, so I don't keep a gots list on site (though links in my profile list everything I have). I will participate in the occasional IP trade, but that is it, at least for now. And I simply use the wishlist for my own references, hence why it includes some beers distributed in my area that I've not gotten around to yet, or to figure out where to direct friends who are travelling and willing to pick up a bottle or two for me.

I should take my own advise, but I cannot..There is a reason his post had "hostile" tones..Because the fact is, calling all those beers infected is just flat out bullshit...If they were soooo bad and constantly put out infected or shit beer, they would not have the great reputation they have..Their booths at festivals would be no lines, and tap takeovers would be empty...But they are not...If you came out and said, that your just not a fan of the brewery, I can totally respect that..But you didnt..Its almost as if you have a weird motive to somehow trash Michigan breweries..This is just based on your own words.. (except founders)

To say everything you had is infected is just false..Sorry..BTW, saying it is possible they were "horrifying" bad beers to try and cover the BS "infected" garbage comment is in itself an indictment on you probably having no clue what an infected beer is..

Again, its fine you dont like the brewery..But you went further to rip a brewery over something that is blatantly false on top of calling most Michigan breweries over rated..

Some serious hate going on in this thread. Remember all: It is just beer and we drink it because we like and have a good time. As momma used to say, if you don't have anything nice to say just don't say anything at all.

I think Shorts makes great beers, but I hate their misses. Make sense? I love, love, love Huma! I drain poured Aorta. Not an infected beer, just so thick bitter and syrupy sweet I couldn't drink more than half a bottle. But I still like the brewery.
