Over the past year I've had KBS, CBS, BCBS, and BCBS Coffee. All amazing beers, but I didn't drink the beers close enough together to be able to really compare them. What is your favorite Bourbon Barrel Stout? What year? Why?

Silva Stout.. It's a chocolate bomb blended harmoniously w/ bourbon and oak. I've been lucky enough to have it on-tap and from the bottle. I enjoyed it much more from the bottle. It's probably the most enjoyable stout I've had to date..

Mine is probably BA Plead the 5th, that was just phenomenal when I had it on draft.

    My favorite is Weyerbacher's Heresy.

While it may not be the best I've had, it is good and readily available at a reasonable price. It has a low enough ABV that I can have two in an evening if I want. It's also easy enough to find that I can easily cellar multiple bottles of it so as to have a 3-4 year vertical tasting for friends. The base beer, Old Heathen, is also a reasonably good and readily available RIS so its possible to do a side by side with Heresy to explore what the bourbon barrel contributes. Indeed, a couple of years ago a small group of us had a vertical/side-by-side tasting that involved 3 years of Heresy and the same 3 years of Old Heathen, all aged under the same conditions.

hard to choose. most likely parabola. possibly KBS or barrel aged boris.

i'm pretty boring here... i think the majority is generally right about quality, within the narrow confines of craft beer.

First, thanks for starting this thread. I'm anxious to read what others have to say about this.

    My personal favorites are:
Goose Island BCBS (because it's the classic of the style)
KBS and CBS (because of their taste and drinkability)
Barrel-aged BORIS (because I can actually buy it without having to complete the 12 Labors of Hercules)

The one I haven't had yet but would most like to try is BA Speedway Stout (because I'm a huge fan of standard Speedway Stout).

I agree with KBS and Parabola. I have in my cellar a CBS, BA B.O.R.I.S., Brooklyn Black Ops, BA Rasputin, 2010 & 2011 Abyss all of which I haven't tried. BCBS is real good but I feel its a little syrupy and sugary for my liking. I've only sampled vanilla BCBS which was ridiculously great. Ill stick with a coin flip between KBS and Parabola... for now
