    Simple Question really:

I bought a 5 Golden Rings, and have never got around to drinking it. However, I've just found out that a certain beer store near me has actually put this stuff on sale.

I'm wondering if anyone has any insight as to how this beer is currently tasting, and if they think it would continue to improve with age?

I know it didn't get the best of reviews, but I'd imagine at 11.5% it'd age alright?

    Thanks in advance

It is meant to be aged. Like Stone's Vertical Epic Series,( which were released 02-02-02, 03-03-03,04-04-04, etc and meant to be tasted on the day of the last release 12-12-12 ) the beers of The Bruery represent the 12 days of Christmas - the song....so..in seven more years..when "12 Lords a Leaping" is released ( Dec. 2019 ), the 12 beers should be tasted in a vertical tasting. So, the beer is meant for aging..or can be tasted now.

I know this is a completely useless response based on no scientific evidence or theory, but I don't see it getting any worse...

Check the Bruery's website, all beers will last until the 12th is released.

Like it says right there on the BA page for this beer/style, can be cellared for long periods under proper conditions. It's only a few months old, so it's still plenty young.

Will it improve with age? My experience is says strong pales *generally* don't significantly improve with age, certainly not in the same way strong darks do. Of course, there are exceptions.

Since this is a part of a series, its intended to hold up until the series plays itself out. That's no guarantee though..

I drank one fresh and it was delicious. Drank another one a couple months later and it seemed like some of the pineapple taste had faded. Maybe I drank it under the wrong conditions.

Actually, I absolutely could imagine that being the case. Unless it's a beer that I'm looking to age, that's immediately my worry that it will GET WORSE.

Guys, please drink your beer fresh.

I would think it will be a bit better with a little bit of age on it. The booziness and the spices were both too intense for me when I had it fresh. I don't know if it'll last until 12 Drummers Drumming, but it should do well for a little while.

    Thanks guys,
as I said I've found it all on sale, so I may just crack one now and if I like it I'll buy more and cellar them for periodical tasting.

    Thanks

This is what you should do. Even if everyone else here said it ages fantastically, if you don't like it today, then you probably won't like it in seven years.

This beer comes with a shovel so that once it hits rock bottom it can keep going down

That bad, huh? Sheesh, I have generally been impressed by the works of the Bruery.

Guess I'll crack one open soon and let you all know

Overall I like the Bruery and most of their spirit aged beers knock it out of the park.

"The Christmas Series" as been hit or miss. 2 Turtle Doves is holding up great for instance (I have is semi often) while my drain had more 5 Golden Rings than I did.

More of a rare miss than anything

Damn, that sucks. How easy or hard is it to get the rest of the series? I am sure Partridge in a Pear Tree is probably a Whale by this point?

Maybe we're weird... but we've had this at my tasting group twice now since release and everyone has LOVED it.

    I love pineapples though.

More power to you. It just didn't do it for me. I don't know if I can pin down exactly what it was, but I think the combination of the base beer with what I found to be an overwhelming pineapple flavor was not a perfect fusion. I applaud them for the creativity in thinking Pineapple for 5 Golden Rings, but I think in order to make a Pineapple based beer still be "good" in another 7 years, they kind of back themselves into a corner with the styles they could choose. Pineapples + BSPA was just tough for me, personally.

I kind of agree. Fresh it was hot, boozy, and over the top pineapple in my opinion. It has settled a little, but it's still a weird taste and I don't see it being stable for seven years. I have a few and access to more, so we'll see what time does to it.

5 Golden Rings reminded me more of a carbonated, heavy wine than of beer. I had it about 3 weeks ago.

But I can appreciate a good wine, so I enjoyed it.
