Good morning my little lager leprechauns,

Mid-MI is exceptionally sunny with about 2 inches of snow remaining from a small squall Friday night. Supposedly we're gonna creep back into the 40s very soon, which hopefully means spring will become a reality.

My little adopted home town of Grand Ledge, MI celebrated its annual St. Party's Day parade/festival yesterday/last night. I DJ'd a wedding reception so I cannot give you a detailed patron's account. But hopefully enough people kept their power dry to keep the REAL celebration day in full functioning order. But I'm sure a little hair of the dog is in order for the vast majority.

The drink of the day is most definitely stout. Whatever variation your stout, I'm sure you'll do us BAs proud. I recently enjoyed a Sam Smith ImoeriL Stout and I was astonishing surprised how fantastic that beer still tastes, even in the wake of Michigan's many stellar renditions of that style. But, being a Michigander with a full appreciation of our craft brews, I must crack open a KBS to fully represent.

Whatever your new beer may be. Whatever your new stout may be, please let us know all about it AFTER you've enjoyed it. Please give us some colorful commentary and some of its attributes/characteristics for us to read. This forum is for us slower-paced old souls who'd rather gab a bit, rather than simply tick. So please stay away from the green beer and do keep satiated with some hearty roasty ales, that will sustain your spirit on this beer-centered holiday. Good day and good drinkin'!

In the undying spirit of craft beer,

    malty

New March Sucks and I am having an New AM IPA Sunday,

    Greeting NBSer's,
I'm continuing my March sucks theme. Yesterday had a good party of sitting/standing outside in 25 degree weather celebrating St. Pat's day. Last year it was nearly 80 and the year before is was in the 20's. In what kind of godforsaken hellhole do I live?! Now the homebrew bock was fantastic. Almost too good, but I'm too old to push it anymore. Tomorrow I get to wake to yet another snowstorm infected Monday morning commute. Did I state I hate March in MN?

Alright, onto to more pleasant things and I'm thankful for that. I'm back to hitting a beer in the top 250. This one currently sits at #174 and I have to travel to WI to get one.

A beer worthy of its standing. Extra smooth bitterness and nice complexity in the hops and malt flavors if one is patient.

    Best to all this week.

    NEW SAISON SUNDAY

No stout for me today, I'm just not feeling it. Its barleywine weather today in Lancaster county. Cold, clammy and overcast with small patches of yestetdays sleet still visible under the pine trees. But today is too busy for something that big, though I do have several new to me examples of my favorite style to pick from.

No, instead I only have time for this before we leave to run some errands.

We'll also check off another of our favorite non kid friendly restaurants to visit while we still can. My wife is due in only two weeks and I can't wait!

Cheers and happy St. Patricks day NBSers!

Figured I'd have a reletively new brewery to me as well as a new beer. 21st Amendment's Marooned on Hog Island. An English style stout brewed with oysters. Up until this point I thought Flying Dog's Pearl Necklace Oyster Stout was my favorite. This is is fantastically smooth and balanced, although relatively high in abv at 7.9% you wouldn't know. It looks as good as it tastes...

Not much head sticks around though. I do wish there were some retention, there's relatively low lacing as well.

Black as night, still fun to see if any light will come through around the edges. A nice dark red can be seen. Really appetizing and satisfying color.

Perfect for an early Saint Patty's day celebration.

    ___________/--------* New Imperial Stout *--------\_________

Lovely day here in IL.... except for the whole dld ticket sale thing that didn't go my way.
    Oh well.

I looked through the back of the beer fridge and found a straggler I had forgotten about-- SeaDevil Stout from Beach Brewing.
I got this as an extra at some point, stuck it in the fridge and forgot all about it.

    No time like the present!
It isn't bad, but it isn't exactly goung to be winning any awards from the AleWatcher Foundation for the Advancement of Outstanding Ales.

Greetings and Happy NBS to all the anti-green advocates! Hope this message finds you enjoying all the trappings of a festive holiday AND another fine new brew in your snifters, goblets, flutes, and nonics.

Weather in Central OH is cloudy and pretty typical for mid-March. A fine day to enjoy Kona (new to my area) and hammer out an operations paper.

Hope this message finds you doing well with whatever is in your glass.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

Happy St. Patrick's Day from Chicago, where we dye our river green. NOT our beer. Today it's been cold and windy, perfect parade weather, right? Eh. At least it didn't rain. The whole family enjoyed our local NW side parade today and in honor of that, I thought I'd open a new local brewery's American Pale Wheat brew. I met some of the guys from Begyle in February and I'm exited to see them develop as they grow. The beers is named Crash Landed and the batch is marked as #1.

It was a decent beer. Very drinkable, but just not that memorable. I've tried a few other Begyle offerings and this is probably my least favorite. But it still was worth the price of admission. Slainte!

Greetings, NBSers, from metro St. Louis. Cold with intermittent snow, rain, and sleet, but thankfully, no accumulation today so far. Good day to stay indoors, catch some basketball, and have a new beer. No Irish stouts for me, but I did enjoy a bit of Jameson with my sons a few days ago for an early St. Patricks celebration.
Not sure how long New Belgium has has this offering, but I picked up my first sixer of this on Friday.
Rampant IIPA. Solid offering and I'll enjoy a few.
    Prost!

New Chipotle Porter (made in MI)

One of those deceiving weather days in West MI. It's all blue skies and sun, until you step outside and realize its still only 27 degrees.

Great weekend. Family was in town for our boys' birthdays. That meant another trip downtown for Laughfest and free sitters so the wife and I could go to a St. Paddy's/Euchre party last night. Is Euchre really as Michigan-centric as I'm made to believe? My wife brought home the winning payout.

The party's all cleaned up, so it's time to sit down with another new beer. This would have gone nicely with the taco bar we put together this afternoon.

New American Kriek Sunday (week 421)

Beautiful, and chilly, day here on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. Working to put lyrics to the first of five songs I am honored to be asked to do, and enjoying the sounds of Barbarian Pale Ale fermenting busily next to me in its bucket fermenter. Switched from a collaboration homebrew to an artistically brewed creation from Oregon. Its beauty has inspired me. Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

    yummy goodness

NEW IMPERIAL STOUT MADE WITH COFFEE MADE FROM WEASEL POOP SUNDAY
    Greetings, NBSers,
45 degrees and a sleet-ish like substance is falling in Spokane. Although I followed Malty's stout commandment, it was one pretty far from an Irish, Guinness-type example. I had one of those (Snoqualmie Falls Black Frog) last night in the bistro section of Huckleberry's while I listened to music performed by a friend. On Friday I got to try Serpent Stout, Rhizing Bines and Liefmans Cuvee-Brut at Pints Alehouse dring their 1st Anniversary party, where I got to at last meet fellow Spokane BA Whiskey.
Today I went with the "Cognac Edition" of the Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch - Most expensive beer I have purchased to date:
Very good, especially if you are looking for a dessert or nightcap beer, but rather spendy for 8.5 ounces of beer!

    Howdy NBS'ers

A chilly, kind of windy, but gorgeously sunny day here outside of Boston. Got some seeds started for a garden of sorts. Looking forward to some herbs, peppers, tomatoes and chilies this year. Also planted some catnip. That'll be fun when it sprouts, though one of our cats wasted no time in trying to open the packet of seeds. She's kind of a junkie.

Going with an anti-St. Patrick's day choice of Avery Maharaja. I'm not wearing any green and staying well far from the festivities going on in Boston's Southie. I've always been kind of a curmudgeon about this holiday in particular. Couldn't tell you why, but when I was a child - probably around 4 - I flatly refused to wear green to church. Even went so far as to forego the usual post-church cookie as punishment for being disobedient. But I digress.

I'm digging the Maharaja. I've become burnt out on the bone-dry hop assaults and wanted something sweeter. This dictator delivers. It's no Heady Topper (which despite the scaldingly hoppyness of that beer, I feel like it's got such a huge malt bill it remains drinkable forever, as in I will never get burnt out on HT).

At any rate, here are some pictures. The lacing is marvelous.

I thought I'd try this Irish style red for St. Patty's Day.

A decent red ale, not as hoppy as the American style.

Sunny here in the Columbia Basin, with temps in the low 50's but windy as the Irish coast. A stiff breeze of about 40 MPH or so.

Happy St. Patty's Day and Happy Trails!
