    Suggestions on Malty/balanced IPA's?

IPA/DIPA with a sweeter taste to it?

The first: Remember that thing called a pale ale?
The second: Try looking toward old ales, maybe even barleywines.

Recent brewers' propensity to come out with things called black IPA, Belgian IPA, American-Belgo IPA, white IPA, India pale lager for chrissake...
I fully expect soon to see German IPA, dopplIPA, Kristal weiss-IPA, dark ice IPA, you name it.

So why the fuck does everything have to be an IPA these days? We realize that some of these beers are different right?

It's a good thing nobody in this country believes in something absolutely crazy like an English IPA.

    eh, thoughts?

IMO "Ipa" doesn't mean "india pale ale" anymore. "Ipa" is a marketing term for a hop-forward beer. Might as well pronounce it "ip-uh"

I will go out on a limb and say its called innovation. In a cooler full of IPA's you stand out if yur label reads "black IPA" or "rye IPA". Back in the day cell phones were bricks, the firt flip phone out there people flocked to. So everyone copied that desgn and it too became passe.

now that you pointed it out, it does sound ridiculous to say "belgian IPA".
But you'll also never get this sucks ***** to badmouth the genre known as IPA. :stuck_out_tongue:

That's actually one of the more defensible ones, as long as Belgian yeast is used. Still smacks of bandwagonism though.

Belgian IPA is a lot more meaningful that Belgian pale ale if you're referring to a hoppy beer made with a Belgian yeast strain.

According to some random statistic I read somewhere and am probably egregiously misquoting, about 20% of all beer sold in the craft market is IPAs. So why wouldn't brewers try to market as many different kinds of beers as possible as some kind of IPA offshoot? Follow the money.

What the hell are all the tickers gonna do if there is one type of beer for each style. Fact of the matter is we need descriptors for these beers. What else are you going to call an IPA brewed with belgian yeast? Or an IPA brewed with rye or roasted barley? Or a stout brewed with coffee and aged in bourbon barrels? Who needs all these stouts anyways? Left hand milk stout and bcbs are just two of the same, right?

Is this actually an issue? Are people really mistaking Bourbon County for being an IPA?

So what we're finding is that the term IPA is morphing into synonymy with 'beer'?
Look into that statistic and get back to us.

It seems as though you're lost in your own argument.

Maybe have one last IPA and go to bed.
