sure, but this thread is basically doing that for our home market's (loosely speaking) beer; i think turnabout is fair play, especially if one predates (and perhaps even caused) the other. " they won't go pick it up for me! " is the most hilariously entitled mindset i've seen in some time, and it's coming from the wrong crowd imo.

it's completely anecdotal, from talking to traders that couldn't land those beers earlier but have suddenly landed them for beatification they brought back to san diego. i am willing to concede that i may be completely wrong.

Fair enough. And FWIW I agree about the merits of this thread (and others like it) as well. This forum is supposed to be about helping people with trading, and answering their specific questions. It has devolved since its inception into a pissing contest about an arbitrary "value" that can't even be truly defined.

And there are various reasons for that. Many of the CA traders are completely sated. At this point I just don't want to trade more beat even if I could. That crazy offer of 50 degrees for 6 was pretty tempting, but just not worth the hassle to get 6 more bottles. And that's for a crazy offer! Pretty much every trader I know IRL feels the same way, we're all already sending out so much...

That will likely change. I think the issue here (as with all these releases, it seems) is that people flip their shit if they don't get a pretrade or get it within a week of release. There are just too many ISOs right now, relax, have a beer, and be patient. I very much doubt that there will be a reasonable trader who wants Beat and doesn't have it a month from now. (And I would say the same was true for King Henry, and CBS, and BCBS, and KBS, and...)

I extra-ed Rare, CBS, Bramble, Bourbon County, and KBS. None of those are "easy" to get and don't exactly touch shelves. Don't group veteran traders in with new traders and opportunists.

Brewery only for 3 days with a limit is actually different from a distributed "shelf" beer. Rare and King Henry, those are actual shelf beers.

ignored or is the supply insufficient? you're editorializing (and it's an attitude that leads to anger and butthurt) while i keep trying to provide some simple, pragmatic explanations that have nothing to do with " people are hoarding the beer. " in reality, people are probably tapped out or have taken care of everyone they want to.

it sounds more eloquent when it's phrased as " what goes around comes around. "

but really, i thought by responding with an explanation closer to home (" remember when you didn't proxy black note? remember what your reasons were for doing it? "), people complaining might empathize a little more with this release. apparently not.

unfortunately, it's 50% pissing contest, 50% negotiation. people believe their trades are more important than everyone else's, so they circumvent the ISO:FT forum by "asking about value" (AKA putting up an auction that they can bump indefinitely in the general section). they also believe that they're justified in greedily and disingenuously writing stuff in an attempt to alter trade value and give themselves an upper hand in negotiations.

it's really gross. if i ever found myself even tempted to act that way, i would give up trading immediately.

edit: at the same time, i think it's worthwhile to preach to people who don't know any better (not you) who really think this "value" talk is any more than a negotiation trick.

Unless there's a movement towards deleting/reporting these types of threads, in which case there will be no need to preach, and the "value" can be somewhat easily figured out through the ISO:FT forum. Sounds familiar...

As a side note, I really hate to be one of those "the good old days" guys. Really, I do.

i don't think any of the reasons i mentioned are mutually exclusive.

i think we all know, as with any release:
    (a) if you were there, the weather was terrible, the beer was awesome, you can't possibly trade it, and it sold out in half the time it actually did
    (b) if you weren't there, it was peaceful and the beer lasted for weeks if not months, and you could have strolled in to pick it up at any time

we'll repeat this for the next major release i'm sure. what's coming down the founders pipeline?

edit: one thing that concerns me is that the number of respected traders has seemingly decreased, either in absolute numbers or relative to the greedy noob hordes. wonder what's going on there.

or maybe the people complaining are the ones respected traders generally don't do business with.

i suspect what's going to go on for a while is this:

midwest trader - " this beer vanished from shelves immediately, it was impossible to buy in quantity without driving all over creation "
    other traders - " lalalalala i can't hear you "

california trader - " this beer lasted for days, but i didn't want to spend that much / it's too far to make multiple trips "
    other traders - " lalalalala i can't hear you "

beer geeks are literally the unhappiest people on earth.

My wife seems to be pretty happy with her darning.

On topic, as I watch these threads pop up, it seems to me like the trading forum is starting to reach the critical mass of too many new traders trying to play catch up. (Some of it is definitely pure greed, but the optimistic part of me believes it's simply people trying to imitate the big time traders of yore without any real idea of the time involved and the relative scarcity of big releases 3 or 4 years ago.) Along with it, the long-time traders are dropping off the map in order to trade only with trusted partners from 'years' back, and there's no one to really counteract the pipe dreams of a 2000 beer cellar with 200 different whales. There aren't really any more whales being released; in the paraphrased words of Calvin and Hobbes, H:"How will they be worth anything if everyone's sitting on a bunch?" Calvin's answer: "We're counting on the other guys' moms to throw them away."
