I know there are tons of IPA posts everyday but I am looking for guidance on where to go next within the IPA style. Have never liked IPAs but recently ventured into the style with Schlafly TIPA and Lagunitas Sucks. Enjoyed both immensely. Any suggestions on where to go next? Odell, founders centennial, others? Thanks.

I really just cannot understand posts like this. It's as if the next beer you drink will be this monumental moment in your life that will either send you to beer heaven or hell for eternity. Here's what you do:

    1. Go to the store.
    2. Look for an IPA (or any other style you may be in the mood for) that somehow catches your eye. (Could be a sexy label, well known brewery, good price, etc.)
    3. Buy something.
    4. Bring it home.
    5. Put it in the fridge.
    6. Drink it.
    7. Repeat steps 1-6 as desired.
    8. Enjoy your new lifestyle where small decisions do not become life changing ones.

I would suggest Lagunitas Maximus, Firestone Double Jack and what mikeburd said.

I'd say, look for the freshest, localest IPA you can get and start with that. Then the double.

So you've never liked IPAs but now you found a couple you do....I'd say just revisit the whole category now since it is likely your palate has changed. Build some mix sixes of whatever fresh IPAs you can get a hold of.

Founders Centennial is a very good Ipa. I agree with the people who said get the fresh ones. In most cases I will not buy an Ipa that is not bottle dated anymore. Freshness makes a big difference with hop foward beers. Unita Hop Notch is a good one that bottle dates.

Sucks uses Chinook, Simcoe, Apollo, Summit, Nugget and HBC342 hops
    Schlafly TIPA uses Galaxy hops.

Look for something with similiar hop profiles.

    Or just listen Mike Burd.

What's to not understand? Asking for information from the community who have an opinion and would like to express it/help out others seems like a logical use of BA. This could save him (and others) from having to suffer through poor representations of the style like Snapperhead.

As for the question, I think Odell's IPA is a top 5 year round offering.

I recently when crazy on IPAs. I did a mixer sixer at Good Beer and searched high and low to try as many different IPAs as I could. Here are some of my highlights of the dozens I have tried within the past 3-4 months, in somewhat of a preference order.

Lagunitas Sucks (though you had this already)
    Alesmith IPA
    Ballast Point Sculpin
    Founders Centennial
    Dogfish 90
    Sixpoint Resin
    Hop Rod Rye
    Firestone Union/Double Jack
    Troegs Perpetual
    Sierra Nevada Torpedo

No matter what your intent, you just created a thread that the BA community reads as "List all the IPAs you like." By the time this thread is over you will have complied the same list of beers that you can get by clicking on the category and sorting by score.

The 2 beers you mentioned reminded me a little bit of Alpine's IPAs. If you trade, I recommend seeking them out. You won't be disappointed. Cheers!

Didn't know it was a crime to start a thread asking for other BAs suggestions for quality beers in a style that is new to me.

Appreciate the helpful posts. I will have to try to find a place that has an extensive mixer sizer selection to try a handful of the above IPAs.

For some reason everyone always overlooks Smuttynose Finest Kind. If you can get it fresh, it's as good as any widely distributed year-round IPA on the market
