...What do you settle on? At what point does the endless quest stop? Recently I brewed a zombie dust clone that was young and tasted different. I made me question what I was looking for. Then I've recently had HillFarmstead Edward and Surly Furious and realized maybe the Ipa/Apa is for me. Where is the border now or Iapa/Apa/Ipa/IIpa? What do you, the well versed drinkers go to? or are you still on the never ending quest.
Are you trying to ask when people will quit inventing styles? Or at what point will people finally settle and only drink one style? What's wrong with liking more than one style? I'm confused... Edit: Wait..Are you asking how many style's I've had?
youve probably never had a barrel aged imperial dunkelweizen.. keep looking. i actually just recently tried the schneider weisse dunkelweizen that is like 9% and it was good. a good strong dark wheat beer is tasty. id love to see imperial lambics too. if im paying 25$ for a cantillon i want to at least get a buzz off it! http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/72/224 that beer. weizenbock
I've been on a conquest for five years now. It won't stop. Thank you to Upland, Three Floyds, and Dogfish Head. There is no end in sight.
Sorry for the confused drunk post before, and this one. Just reminising of the the days of going to a bar bar and not being disgusted by the choices. I remember the days of drinking corona and heniken, when it tasted good. Cant wait to wake up tomorrow , read this and wonder wtf i was typing Yes, late night (wife sleeping boredom at its best), were all drinkers aren't we? I am addicted to finding the next best thing and was wondering if anyone has found something that was their all the time beer. The closest thing ive come to is the 2 listed b4 abd bourbon county and 120.
Well thank you for clarifying. Yes, Bourbon County would be up there for me too. I've recently been getting into the Berliner Weisse/Floridaweisse craze that's been going on in Florida as of late. I like to adventure into different styles quite a bit, when I get bored of the usual IPA's and Stout's.
i too am drinking because my wife and offspring are sleeping. i am only on bomber #2 though. that being said, may break out the barley wine shortly. got a few bottles of alley kat olde deuteronomy 2010 and 2011 that require consumption. great BW. even the bros say so!
I'd like to get to a point where I've tried a beer of every (current) style - just to know that I have - but I'll probably never go out of my way for it (unless I'm really close to having done it, like randomly, at some point - seeing, hey, there are only 5 styles I've never had? Then I'd definitely be seeking them out - that close, why not?). More commonly, I seem to naturally, every so often, try out a handful of new beers and discover one to be of a style I've never tried before. I'm pretty sure that even not having tried a (insert style here), I'm already versed enough with beer to have a good sense of what my favorite styles are, and what to expect from most styles (most of the time). I enjoy far too many styles to really say I'm ever going to settle in on one - I might settle in on about 7 or 8 (or more), but never just one or two styles. Too much good beer out there: I enjoy the seasonal changes in available beers, look forward to the new releases of familiar beers, and like to try new beers that are constantly popping up. I also like to try highly-rated beers of any style that are around, but I've never traded for beers, so I'm not that driven (yet?). My go-to styles (at this point, and in no particular order): Imperial stouts (including the RIS), IPAs/DIPAs, old ales, barleywines, and BSPA (including tripels). But there are also always going to be some go-to beers in styles I don't otherwise drink much of - like the Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier, Allagash Odyssey, or Fuller's London Porter, to name a few. It's never-ending, but for me, more like a journey than a quest. Cheers, bro!
never ending quest indeed. Being a beerphile on a quest is perfect for my personality. always trying to do one better, experience more.... The limitless # of brews and constant new releases will keep me busy for quite a while....
I have had all 104 styles listed on BA. It was a fun "quest", but now I just try new beers I have never had no matter what style they may be.
I pretty much can appreciate and enjoy most styles of beer, but I drink and brew IPA like 90% of the time.
