Good morning ballers of barleywine and cagers of Kolsch! I'm assuming most of your brackets are busted by now leaving the day free to explore all the goodness and novelty that is New Beer Sunday. Weather here in Central OH is cloudy and unseasonably cold. Waiting for the white death and a most unceremonious welcome to Spring Break for the kiddos.

Was more than happy to pick up some Alchemy Hour at Kroger this weekend. That will be most likely making an appearance today as I hammer through the last week of my Operations class. Hope your Sunday is more relaxing than mine.

This is the forum to pull up a stool, try a NEW beer, and share a virtual pint with us. You would never go to your favorite pub and talk about what you might drink...so don't do that here. This is a forum to talk about what you've already sampled. Share your musings, likes/dislikes, vessel of consumption, anything to give us a good description of your new adventure in a glass. Pictures are always a hit and linked reviews are appreciated.

If you're unclear of how it's done, sit back and watch a few rounds. You'll get the hang of it. Hoping there is something new, crafty, and tasty in your glass today. Good day and good drinkin'.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

Ah, yes, good morning ladies and gentlemen,

It occurs to me that this is the flagship thread on the site, now that LNBA is gone. The "what are you drinking now?" thread takes back seat simply because it "merely" (lol) advocates the drinking of beer. To me, true beer advocacy involves promoting the drinking of new beers. And in that, this thread is unique.

This is a new beer weekend for me. Off next week. Picked up a total of 9 new beers to review and try.
Held off on new stuff until yesterday, when I had these three:
    Young's Double Chocolate Stout
    Smuttynose IPA
    Revelry
This morning, before y'all were up (lol) I had another one:
    Prima Pils

Now that you're up to speed, I've popped the cap on this Chimay Tripel (White):
Had this beer about 3 years ago, before I was on the site or had considered reviewing beers. So this is the second time I'm having it, posting my first review of it.
I've been a big fan of the tripel - my top 2 being the Westmalle (*cue angelic chorus*) and the Karmeliet. I completely forgot that the "White" Chimay was a tripel. So glad this beer was on my "come-back-to" list. Leaps right into third, ahead of the very popular La Fin Du Monde (all IMO, 'natch).

Beautiful day here. Nice and cool with blue skies and a slight breeze.
I have three things to do today: Drink beer, eat, watch TV, and screw around on the computer. Not bad, eh? See you later.

    Cheers!

This is my contribution for this afternoons tasting. They're all new to me except one but it's gonna be new to the tasting group.

The only thing you're having that I've had is the Pretty Things quad. I'd curious to hear what you think about it. Looking at your pic, I realize I know nothing about any of the other beers. How cool is that? Beer diversity.

Prediction: Hotmetal1 has a good day.

I've had the Cuvee D'Erpigy it's a Belgin oaked desert beer and it's crazy good. The smell is like being hit in the teeth by an oak 2 X 4 but not as much oak taste. I have also had La Folie but not the new one.I'm going to serve the Cuvee D'Erpigy with a homemade pecan pie my mother made for me yesterday.

    NEW WHEATWINE SUNDAY

A sunny morning is rapidly turning into a dreary, overcast afternoon with snow in the forecast here in Lancaster county PA. I'm spending what could well be my last quiet Sunday for quite awhile tidying the nursery and puttering around the house. Any day now. I can't wait to meet this little person!

I made my wife brunch that included some very good if I do say so myself pesto parmesan omelettes. I enjoyed mine with an excellent wheatwine that I'm still nursing whose name does not reflect my mood.

    Cheers and happy NBS everyone!

Greetings fellow NBSers! After a couple of warm, sunny days, today is a warm cloudy day here in the Fourth Corner. A friend passed away last week after spending 15 hours on the operating table, and I'll be heading to the calling hours in a bit, so I might not be able to post any new beers today, so I'm going to bend the rules and post a couple new brews from yesterday in honor of Mike.

A couple of friends went over to Eastern Washington/Northern Idaho earlier this week and brought back a bunch of beer. This first one is from a small brewpub, and the growler fill was the first pour off the first keg of this beer to be tapped, a nice Red IPA: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/14413/91612

    New BIG IPA Sunday!

The Jersey Shore is paying for a mild 2012 month of March. Not once has the mercury risen to 60 degress yet this month, compared to more than half of March, 2012 hitting 60 or above. Today will not make 50 degrees, and it's overcast and raw.

Today is a true 'day off'. Real R&R after yesterday's final visit to my daughter's university of choice. Maybe I just need time to recover from the welt in the finances. Ouch.

No better time than now to share the beer: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/423/39639/?ba=NiceTaps

Double-Wide IPA, not bad but I can't say that I really enjoyed it.

    Cheers and all the best!

    New Weizenbock (top 250) Sunday

    Greeting NBSer's,

I've come down off the ledge from last week. Finally got to acceptance, although March still sucks and this one has been suckeir than most. Still too damn cold and maybe this week will get to the 40's and maybe 50 by next NBS. Woo Hoo! But for today in SCMN upper 20's, slighty cloudy and little hope in sight. Maybe I'm just burnt out. Next week I'm taking some time off, but my list of things to do is pretty long. Cross that bridge...

Got another top 250 beer today. A foreign weizenbock from one of the oldest (if not the oldest) and certainly a great German brewery. Hard to believe I haven't sampled this one yet, considering how much I like the others this brewery produces.

A not very bock like weizenbock, but so delicious. Well rounded and an overall satisfying drink.

    Best to all this week.

OMG - how embarrassing: I said, "...three things..." and then listed four. I'm gonna chalk that up to the Chimay...

    This was my afternoon beer.
Strong balance between malt and hop - and the hops were further well-balanced between the piney and citrusy kinds.

Hi everyone! Chicago is cold, windy and grey, but at least we didn't get the snow that was predicted (knock wood.). Personally, I'm calling shenaingans on that groundhog.

For NBS (and by the way, this has become my absolute favorite thread on BA) I'm trying a local Rye Stout from Half Acre. It's pretty good, even if I wish that they hadn 't been so heavy handed on the rye notes.

Hope everyone has a great week and that we all get some Spring soon!

    >>>>>>NEW AMERICAN DOUBLE/IMPERIAL STOUT<<<<<<<<

Good afternoon BA! St. Louis City awoke to this:

And its still snowing! I actually kind of like these spring snow events. Especially when NCAA basketball is on.

Since the weather called for it I decide to try this:

    photo-1 by JoEBoBpr, on Flickr

I was quite surprised (plesantly) by this brew. There is some awesome fresh espresso notes as opposed to some of the other coffee stouts that have a more spent coffee grounds note. There is also some good nuttiness, vanilla and cocoa notes to it. Mouthfeel is quite filling as well. Slick and smooth. Yum!

    Happy NBS to all...

Mild day here on Long Island but it may just be the calm before the storm?
I'll be happier once spring finally arrives.

Another beer I had almost three years ago, but never came back to or reviewed until now:

    Chimay Dubbel (Red)
Man, was I glad to revisit this beer.
    Backlit view:
I liked this more than I've liked most dubbels - the fruitiness was moderate and the feel and fizz on the beer was really enjoyable - very drinkable.

Although I'm actually not a big fan of their Blue, I can definitely say that Chimay produces high quality traditional Belgian beer across the boards. How are you going to beat genuine Belgian trappist monk craftsmanship?

Their Red (and White) are top 5(-ish) for their styles (for me).

    Cheers!

    New Double IPA Sunday

This one was bordering on American Barleywine for me due to the booziness. However, there was such a unique mandarin orange hop aroma that I've never noted in any beer before this one. Really cool. Well done GLBC!

    Happy NBS to all!!
