I just interviewed their marketing director, and he said the reason they went with 19 oz can was because they wanted to give people a "single serving craft beer in a can," especially for sporting events, concerts, etc.

If you follow their facebook, you'd see the insane amount of different beers they actually make, but I agree that it would be nice to see some of those distributed and not just brewery/cafe only.

That said, I am the same guy who was wheeled around a downtown Boston hotel in a baby carriage drinking a keg of Dale's. Bachelor parties are fun.

I'm ok with the can sizes, at least the beer is still really good.

Some people are more interested in what's inside than the silly packaging...

Also beer is better in a can, wine is a different story. Unless you can have a cork with a can...

As long as they keep making TenFidy, I'll put up with a gimmick or two.

As long as the price per ounce doesn't change from 12oz to 16oz to 19.5oz or whatever it may be, doesn't bother me.

Cans... that's rich. I only drink beer with a cork on the bottle.

The new larger cans haven't made it to my market yet but I'll be keeping an eye out for them and checking the dates since everyone else seems to be getting them before me.

I think it's AWESOME. They are doing something different than everyone by not doing 22oz or 24oz. I don't know the reasoning behind this but if I can grab a single 19.2oz Dales for $2.99 on my way to the beach, that makes me much more happy than buying a $5.99 bomber in a glass bottle. Cans are popping up everywhere, why not give the large format a chance? I've already drank three! Seriously though, great value when compared to bombers.

I do agree, however, upgrading the G'night into 16oz is kind of strange. Maybe make more money? The 12oz were $.21 per ounce and the 16oz is $.23 an once. Why not go from 4 pack to 6 pack since they were about $2.50 a can, making the $15 6 pack better than $15 4pack pounders?

It ages extremely well in there I'm told...

To me, I'd say releasing existing mainstream beers in larger containers is far less "gimmicky" than doing bizarre one-offs or intentionally creating rare beers for people to bicker over.
It's no different than New Belgium and Sierra Nevada releasing Fat Tire and SNPA in bombers along with 6-packs to me.

More and more Breweries are starting to can their beers so I'd say OB is more of a pioneer among craft breweries than anything else.

I would complain, but Brevard brewed 19.2 oz cans of Dale's go down like water and tastes incredible.

Not gimmicky at all. I can't wait for Sucks to be released year round in those 32oz bottles too!

Any definition that ends up in claiming that Oskar Blues is gimmicky makes pretty much every craft brewer gimmicky.

I'd be on board with such a characterization, but let's be fair here.

They're taking a page out of BMC's playbook.

Why do you think BMC make all those weird sized packs? Less shelf for their competitors.

Beers that don't age well won't age any better in a can. Cans are a great package for almost everything else. IMO, can bigotry generally represents ignorance.

I'm aging a can of Lower De Boom to see what happens. I have heard that Ten Fidy ages quite well in a can.

I'm pretty sure Dale and the folks at OB were chaffed for their original gimmick of putting craft beer in cans in the first place. Look at how big a farce that turned out to be...
