I also am well aware of this "difficulty of choice" when I first started going to singles bars. :grinning:

    Wow, see for me...

    1) Pint night at any of the bars I frequently visit is about $5-6 for the first pint (because you get to keep the glass) and then $3-4 per pint after you have the glass. EDIT - PLUS beer is usually better from the tap anyway unless it's a bottle conditioned beer.
    AND
    2) I can drive about 10-25 minutes down the road to any of the dozen breweries around me on a tasting day, pay $10 and they give you a glass, a tour and between 6-8 8oz sample pours of their brews.
    OR
    3) You can go to a good beer shop and pick up a six pack where they throw in the glass for free.
    SO
My deal is still better IMO

In the case of Teku glasses with that huge stem it makes them much easier to spill so yes I do blame the glass. The idiots that makes them should know their going to hold a alcoholic drink. That said I'm now realizing just how much I enjoy "accidently" breaking them when someone serves my beer in one so I have to admit they have at least one good thing about them. As for speeding try telling the officer you accidently hit the gas when your Teku glass full of beer started to slip in your hand:grinning:

Or you coiled just take accountability for being clumsy and not blame a glass. You also seem like a real jerk if you enjoy breaking peoples stuff because you're not careful.

Coiled??? Also I don't feel bad about breaking the glasses since I've told both people and certain bars I don't like my beer served in those glasses and they do it anyways. Many people have learned that those kind of glasses tend to fall from my hand and don't bring me them anymore. I even have one bar that breaks their policy to use certain glasses for certain beers since I've broken so many glasses.

I also don't believe him at all. The bar would clearly ban him. He must get his kicks thinking he sounds badass by saying he breaks glassware he dislikes...

believe what ever you want but the bar likes my money as much as anyones I am a exception to their "this beer must go in this glass" policy ever since the exception glasses no longer break if they still broke I'm sure I'd get banned. I don't give a damn about sounding bad ass in fact I'm sure alot of people won't like what I did but for those of us who wish for change in the industry if everyone did this bars wouldn't keep buying the kinds of glasses that keep breaking.

Its just something to collect. People like collecting stuff. Yes you get more aromas and flavors off certain glasses. Is it necessary? No. Any wine glass or brandy glass will do just fine. That's all beer glasses are now, just a twisted version of a wine glass with a cool etching. Teku glass? Complete hype, but I love them. If I could have them all I would. The funny thing is that I never use them, ever. To answer your question to too much glassware... Yes I have too much, completely unnecessary. I can't stop though, I'm hooked!

The best way to prevent broken glassware... is to send a message... by intentionally breaking glassware....?

Sounds to me like "destroying a village to save it."

I don't like frosted mugs, but I wouldn't destroy them to make a statement.

my collection peaked at around 500 but since suffering a massive stroke i just about stopped, since my health improved i have once again started collecting glasses, not as active as i was when younger but beer glasses to me are amazing the core of whats left of my collection, broke a lot, lost a lot, gave a lot away, are vintage dutch and belgian pils glasses all around 40 /50 years old most from breweries that are closed. i love to drink imported heineken from a 50 year old pils glass.i visit my village pub once a week now and tend to drink at home. a good beer deserves a good glass. the superb craft beer revolution in america as fired up english importers so we now see sam adams, goose island, anchor and others in beer stores and supermarkets. this has fired my collecting to include american pint shakers to enjoy the beers in the correct glass. i like shakers they have a good feel look good and hold a lot of beer. in england we have some superb european beers imported especially belgian and german so my vintage collection can usualy match a beer i buy. i have trades on offer for shakers and heres a link to my flickr page http://www.flickr.com/photos/pils53/

I only have...6 glasses. 2 lagers from Crate and Barrel, a Raven pilsner glass, a Flying Dog goblet, and the Ommegang tulip that came in the gift pack this past winter.

but reading this thread made me think it would be really neat to have a shelf to display all kinds of different glasses.

Just no teku glass. aside from the name of them, I just think they look ridiculous.

I have a large collection of glasses, including tulips and tekus...and I have NEVER broke one, ever. Sounds like you need to stop blaming the glass and drink your beer out of a plastic sippy cup with a lid.
