Up to you really. It's his mistake, and he needs to fix it at his cost. This is, of course, assuming your negotiations were clear. (Which is not always the case)

That said, assuming we're not talking about long-retired rarities, paying to ship back one bottle is a little ridiculous. What I would do if I were him is just send you the 2 beers and say "keep the error" as an extra. Likewise, if you're feeling generous/adventurous, you may just want to keep the bottle you did receive instead of the 2 others and you might like it more than you thought.

Once I shipped two boxes to the wrong folks. Not only did I send labels (all my expense) to each of them to correct the mistake, I also sent each of them one of the beers from the other's box, as they liked what they saw when they opened it.

This is the correct path.

If this trader won't minimally cover whatever expenses it takes to correct their error, add them to your profile as "be careful when trading" and cut your losses.

But, first, at least reach out to them and give them the chance.

After seeing that, he should absolutely just send you the two WWS's and just let you keep the Menagerie. WWS is a perma-shelf beer, of varying vintages. Sexual Chocolate is a limited release with pretty high trade value, so he got a great deal here any way you slice it. Least he can do is make it right. If he really wants the Menagerie back, there's nothing wrong with that, but it would be on his dime.

 

As long as it was clear you didn't want the first beer and he clearly agreed to send you two WWS, then the error is on him and he should do as others have said and either just send the WWS and let you keep the original beer as a bonus, or send the label to cover the wrong beer he sent being sent back.

Without seeing the conversation I can't judge either way.

 

Case closed, he's on the hook to get you your WWS, whether he lets you keep the Menagerie or sends you the label to send it back to him is up to him. If he wants to make up for the mistake he'd let you keep it.

 

FWIW, just completed a trade with OP and communication was great. Hopefully the other party will make it right.

 

What I would suggest to make shipping palatable it to try and work out another trade (maybe just locals for locals), and then just swap the Menagerie for the two WWS in addition.
