can you explain more? Yes there have been a few in the past. Sometimes it is simply poor communication, other times it is someone taking on too much at once. Are you looking to share an experience? or looking for a fun read? or curious about the cons of getting a trustee. Or are you looking for a centralized list (like the Bad Traders list).

I don't think there is an entire thread dedicated to it. But, I've seen at least one callout in the past. I think all bad trustees who have been called out would end up on the Bad Traders list.

Why would they be considered bad traders? They didn't trade anything.

If they picked up the beer and didn't ship it out, that is more like shoplifting than trading.

If they didn't pick up the beer and left you hanging out of state, that may be an inconvenience to you but not a bad trade.

Bad trader - you ship them beer that you bought and they keep it without sending you anything.

Bad trustee - you buy beer that they pickup and never send to you.

I fail to see how there is much of a difference, considering that they are both stealing in the eyes of most people.

If that happens, you can still find another trustee. Not the same as stealing beer, which is what the people who have been called out in the past have done.

    "Are you serious, Clark?"

You have an agreement with someone to be a trustee, they fail to do so, and you consider it an inconvenience?

    Stunned...

I addressed "stealing" in my post above.

To keep it simple, if they picked it up and won't send it put them on the Bad Trader's list. Being a trustee for beer is just an extension of trading.

This is pretty simple. Would you want to trade with somebody who dicked another trader over while acting as a trustee?

Besides, trustees are beer mules, which is essentially beer trading with cash/favors going in one direction instead of beer. They're doing a nice thing so they absolutely deserve a lot more leeway around time to ship and communication than your typical trade. And if an issue came up that prevented them from trusteeing anymore, it would be understandable. But, there comes a point where they are no better than a bad trader if they are blatantly running away with somebody else's beer.

What about the reciprocal of this, a thread about dudes who compel you to pick up and ship cases upon cases of beer for them and they hit you with Finch's Cutthroat pale ale and some mixed Terrapin offerings in recompense?

    What about thems

Terrapin stuff is solid. If you don't like my thank-you box, send it back.

    Perfect example.

...or the guy who stops by the local grocery store on the way to a bottleshare to pick up some $5.99 shelf beer bomber for the tasting.

    of what?

I'm still curious as to why it's merely an inconvenience to me if I have an agreement with someone to trustee on my behalf and when they fail to meet the expectations set in that agreement, oops...that's on me.

Your beer will be sitting safe and sound at the Bruery until March 2014. You have plenty of time to make other arrangements. This is an INCONVENIENCE, understand?

you commented it had nothing to do with a bad trader. so i can rephrase my question...how is this not the act of a bad trader?

mistakenly thought you would get the point of my question of inconvenience as being sarcastic...rather than deflect.

you made a statement of "If they didn't pick up the beer and left you hanging out of state, that may be an inconvenience to you but not a bad trade."

gasp...do people actually do that? might as well show up empty handed...since you'll likely end up leaving with the beer you just bought.

as for bad trustee vs bad trader...i see a bad trustee as someone who will eventually send the beer out, they will just make you beg and plead for it whereas a bad trader will never send and not communicate, etc. i've dealt with and have friends who have dealt with bad trustees before, but i've seen it go both ways with people not sending either boxes or shipping labels out to trustees and basically making trustees store cases and cases of beer. i think in these situations if you can't find someone who has the same time frame you have, then switch your trustees. for every trustee who sends stuff out the day they pick it up, there are trustees who don't mind storing cases of your beer for months at a time...if you can't find someone who has the same mentality as you, go find another.

...and kids, remember to tip your trustees.

Being from the area around The Bruery, I know of way more "bad trustor" stories than vice versa. Personally, I have lucked out and had no problems, but I have heard plenty. People angry that their beer that isn't even released yet hasn't been shipped, people too lazy just to order packaging on the internet so their beer from 2012 is still taking up space, extravagant demands in exchange for nothing.

Absolutely. Nobody is under any obligation to go and pick it up for you bro. Unless you signed some kind of a contract, the entire relationship is at-will.

I have long rider that must be agreed to before I become anyone's trustee. One of the many bullet points is that I can quit being your trustee for any reason at any time. Sorry but I'm not a beer shipping slave here.
