Yep, Brandon told me a similar story to the one I heard at Premium Draught. He said his box of OG Black Metal is one of the original batches and were never labeled for some reason. The distributer gave him labels to stick on the bottles himself but they were labels for Farmhouse Black Metal, so he's selling them nude until he gets some OG Black Metal labels.

He got two cases, not sure how much he has left, but seeing as he got two, I doubt he'll sell you all he has/a case. Just my .02 as a fly on the wall of DNQ.

I'll ask him for shits n giggles. Lord knows I've spent enough paychecks there. I have a pretty good relationship with Brandon. Now I just need to get into whatever tasting group he hosts/attends....If he does that is.

    I'm down.

Anyone cracked open a Buddha's Brew recently to see how it's held up?

I think I'll have to pass on this one. I hate gin / juniper. I'm afraid my manliness may all be gone now.

Whiskey / bourbon are more manly than gin, IMO.

Interesting. We were just as curious about the recent availability of OG Black Metal, as we haven't brewed any since late 2011.

Better question: would a distro ever have bottles without labels? That just sounds weird.

I know in our bar if a customer pulls off the label on a beer the bartender goes MENTAL because the TABC can fine him. Labeling and distro kinda go hand-in-hand, right?

:slight_frown: I understand going all farmhouse and I know you are probably tired of hearing this but... Please brew that again. It is widely regarded as the best stout ever brewed in Texas. I know a little about brewing, very little about the commercial side, but I would volunteer a week of my personal time doing whatever it takes around the brewery to make this happen.

    Make me regret that statement,

You know you can just Homebrew it yourself, right?

Austin Homebrew sells it as a kit: http://www.austinhomebrew.com/product_info.php?products_id=12825

Here's the DIY recipe for OG as well:

If I remember correctly one of the earlier batches of og black metal was the batch that they got the wrong bottles so they got small caps for those bottles from austin homebrew and rolled with it. Those are silver caps, not sure if they used any of those bottle for other beers. I have one or two at home, one is in the fridge waiting for the right guest to come over.

Some bottles went out a long time ago without labels. It was our mistake. We gave our distributor the proper labels to fix the mistake.

Thanks for your kind words. Who knows, maybe someday we'll have a big homebrew day and give out OG Black Metal wort to homebrewers who bring in carboys or fermentation buckets. We'd maybe ferment and bottle condition the rest of the wort ourselves for an anniversary release. I hate to say we'll never, ever brew it again. I can firmly say however that OG Black Metal is retired from regular production.

A homebrew day would be pretty badass. I fully support this endeavor. Would love to do a few split batches to try out some different yeasts. And then age on vanilla beans and bourbon soaked oak cubes.
