Anyone else get the same impression with this batch? The head even seem notably lighter in color.. Still great, but doesn't seem like a solid 100 rating anymore.. maybe its just brewery expansion pains (?)..

More than likely....it's your pallet that's changed. 2 or 3 years ago, you probably hadn't had as many bourbon barrel aged beers, and just plain amazing beers in general.

I was wondering when this thread would begin...

I agree. I drink too much to really be able to compare beers every 6 months, let alone 2-3 years down the road.

Maybe you should search out some other vintages and try to do a side-by-side to confirm your beliefs? Haven't had any of this years vintage, but if it is anything like last year I'm on board.

Much too thin and artificial tasting this year...

I have KBS vintages from the last several years, didnt want this to be the reason to compare them though!

    I'm trading 1 2013 for a 2012, so I'm excited to drink em side-by-side. Now, to find a 2011 lol.
*edit* OOPS lol, I just realized I said I was trading a 2012 for a 2012... fixed it. Apparently it's almost time for bed.

Is it too early to speculate how much less hoppy this year's celebration will be?

Let's call it the grandpa thread--nothing as good as the good old days.

Delicious, unique and was worth the wait and modest effort.

I didn't find it that great.. I would drink a bourbon county over this anyday. All i got was Alcohol and that was it no complexity like the bourbon county.

it seems that ever since FMB, the common complaint with Founders coffee beers is "artificial tasting." Haven't necessarily gotten that myself.

And right on cue, a "not what it was in past" thread pops up. How about we archive this and just paste Parabola in it for when Parabola comes out in 2 weeks...This way it'll save us the time...

Anyway, I tried KBS for the first time tonight and I thought it was a top 5 beer I've ever had. However, BCBCS was better than this. Maybe I need to have another KBS, but the flavor profile of BCBCS was much more deep and in-your-face than KBS is. With that being said, I'd totally spend 20 bucks on a 4 pack of KBS.

I came here just to plug Bourbon County, which is great every release.

My first year having it. A very good beer, but I don't understand the hype and how difficult it was to buy 2 measly bottles. Really didn't get much barrel flavor compared to other BBA beers I've had. A very good beer and I'm very glad I tried it, but I'd rather spend my money and time on other BBA beers. I'll definitely buy it again if I can obtain a 4 pack with relative ease but it's too much work at this point

Not sure what the answer is, but I can tell you that I'm sitting here drinking mine - thankful I only scored one bottle :flushed:. I just don't find it all that great. It seems way too coffee forward, more so than even something like Coffee Bender, which I thought was super coffee-e. I was hoping for more bourbon/chocolate, and without it, I'd rather just have a 'regular' FBS.

    Anyway, just thought I'd share.

That was the point.. In my opinion, in the past you would've understood why all the hype.. That has seemed to evaporate over the last 2 releases (this year/last year)..
