Lagunitas brew house in Chicago will start production in October!! To me it seems perfectly reasonably that Iowa distro would be some time next spring? What amazes me is how fast Lagunitas is putting this big ass brew house together and bringing it on line and yet Surly is still standing around with there dicks in the dirt!!! Come on Surly the Midwest is thirsty for your product! Stop applying for very government grant and loan known to man and start building a brewery!! As for Iowa brewers your awesome and keep up the great work!!

We successfully bottled our first 10 bbls of beer today. Assassin 2013 could be next in line!

Congrats! Any chance the Assassin has distribution anything similar to Naughty Temple?

Point taken but Lagunitas sure makes it look easy! Right now Surly's "destination brewery" is assuming the same status as Santa and the Easter bunny! They both make you feel good but they don't really exist.

lagunitas is huge and probably has more cash flow to do so. Also I don't think they are intending for their chicago site to be a destination stop for people. Plus Surly is needing the grants for clean up site they chose. I think they are getting close.

Went to Wine Stylez in West Des Moines last night. I was very surprised to find one of the most unique beer selections I've seen in the area--- AND, a case of KBS scattered on the shelves for $21.49 a 4-pack.

Not to call anyone right or wrong just my personal preference but I seem to like my hoppy beers fresh as possible, if were talking stouts then aged is fine but just for fun try to find a freshly bottled ipa and find the same type that is 6+ months old…. You will or at least should be able to tell there is a big difference in the hop flavor, the older one should still taste plenty good but you should appreciate the more recently bottled much more. Check out Pliny Elders label as well as stone enjoy by and both indicate they are not meant to be aged and should be consumed as quickly as possible.

Are you saying we should start seeing Odell on DSM shelves now?

Anyway, exciting times for Iowa beer lovers these days! Can't wait until I see TG on store shelves.

They said they were going to Des Moines to talk to the Hy-vee's. I told them to check out El Bait Shop  . My understanding is that they are definitely entering Iowa in the near future.

This is best discussed in the Surly brewery thread, but if they already have the funding lined up for a 20 million dollar brewery, I'd argue that they don't "need" a grant. They're choosing to not have to pay for it out of their own pocket. I have no doubt that they could've gotten a loan for the extra half a million or whatever it is going to cost to clean-up the site.

Sorry for derailing the thread. Back to Iowa rumors.

Deschutes is coming to Iowa and Nebraska for sure. Odell seems to be coming to Iowa and I assume Stone is coming to Nebraska soon-ish.

Hell, I still have a few bottles. It is interesting when it gets malty. Hopefully they are selling them at a discount.
