For all the hardcore barleywine drinkers out there what is your favorite year for the SN Bigfoot? I know age will play a factor in it but I can get a case of 2010 for 49 bucks plus tax. Barleywines are one of my favorite styles to drink and I would love to sit on this case if the year ages well. Let me know what you think. Thank you.

2001 is drinking like liquid toffee spun into gold by gypsy fairies right now.

Regularjohn, what year are you aging of the 4 packs kid. One of my favorite barleywines. I might be able to get a 2011 for the same price. I would like to try either one next year side by side with my 2012 Bolt Cutter.

Im guessing he is aging four packs of 2013, since this is the first year they came in four packs. That is unless he drank 2 out of each 6 pack he is aging

Overall, I like barleywines and I've gotten this a couple of times for an American barleywine, but I'm really into English barleywines. I think I see some one mention aging a Bigfoot at least once a week. Maybe I'll buy a pack only to age it.

The local market near where I worked was selling 2010 Bigfoots (individual) for relatively cheap (for the island anyway), and I nabbed a couple, and have made a habit of tossing a loosey 2012 in my other beer purchases as well. Really excited about how they're going to develop on into the future. What's their ideal age?

A buddy of mine did a 7 year vertical tasting of these last year (2012 -2006). Out of the 7 of us there, we overwhelmingly found that the beer was sublime with either 1 or 2 years on it. After that, it really fell off, with the 2006 and 2007 not being very good at all. The 2006 actually smelled like soap.

SN brought a 1994 Bigfoot (in 2010) and a 1996 Bigfoot (in 2011) to the Extreme Beer Fest in Boston.
Both had matured and mellowed, but were fantastic.

I don't like it fresh, way too hoppy for me, but we got a 2008 from the brewery rep last month and I loved it. I've also had a sip of a 2002 and was really pleased with it, so I'm thinking anything past four years is fine by my tastes.

I just drank a 2011 last night, and holy amazamaballs...
Haven't had any with the age like these guys are talking about, but looking forward to one day almost a decade from now when I can bust out the 2010-onward vertical and make all the ladies swoon

Had a 1998 last weekend. Very smooth, low carbonation. No complaints.

Last year (2012) I opened up a 2002 and a 2004, didn't really try to age them, they were just keepsakes that people brought back from their travels since I grew up in Chico. After getting into beer and aging more I decided to give them a try. The 2002 was past its prime but not bad, but the 2004 was mellow, sweet and delicious. I actually read an article talking about how Ken Grossman brough out a keg of that for an event as it was one of their good years that was aged.

Now I save a couple from each year to try and start doing verticals.

I had a 2009 last year that was amazing. We had a beer tasting at my store and the college girl the distributor sent had no idea what she was doing. I wrote her out some crib notes on the beers she was pouring to help her out.
She told me "They gave me a six pack of this old beer from 2009, should I pour it?"
Turned into a much better tasting and I took one home.

    All of them.

Seriously, I've never had the first one of the year where I thought "hmm, not as good," "less hoppy," or "more spices" or whatever it is everyone says about (insert seasonal beer name) when it comes out. . .

It is the hallmark of consistency. And its fun to see where it goes as it ages. . .
