I had always suspected they were an anti-theft device, but here is the proof. I can't say I haven't noticed the similarities between bottles of WWS and Indian Brown. I would never () try to "upgrade" a mix-a-six with a 120 or WWS, but Dogfish Head wisely eliminated any chance of that. Pretty interesting article. Outside of the danger cap, I had never noticed the ABV color coding they use for the other beers.

So simple yet effective. I know I've accidentally brought home 6/4 packs before with other beers from the same brewery mixed in. It's common at stores that allow mix-a-six packs but all too often I see it because someone wanted to steal a more expensive beer. Now I check every time.

I had noticed the crown color and ABV correlation, but didn't know it was an anti-theft device. I did make a magnet from a 120 cap, though. It's just so cool-looking.

Haha I used to always do that when getting a mix-a-six. I would only be able to find 4 or 5 beers that I wanted and then just snuck a SNPA or Torpedo into it. Pretty lame I know.

^So that's what happens when you put an emoticon face in parentheses. Good to know.

Despite this, I once had a store clerk INSIST that the 6 WWS I brought the counter separately were really a messed-up 6er of Indian Brown and should be sold for around 9 bucks, total. You can only argue so much before you give up and accept the gift.

I actually had this happen once buying Raison D'Extra. No matter what I said the clerk would not believe the bottle was 9$ and was convinced it was ringing up a 6 pack. Called the manager over and everything, he told her charge $1.99.

I have had more sucess talking to brick walls than convincing them the price was correct as rung up. I just paid and left so I could get away from the stupidity.

I always thought it was a warning because of how high in alcohol they were. I guess it can be both.
