Just got back from a week in the Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo area of the OBX. What used to be a pretty barren beer landscape has gotten a good bit better. Also nice that at least for now they have finished the dune work on Hwy 12 just north of Rodanthe and the road hopefully will stay open through the summer (the interim dune work took a hit the first of March and the road was closed ... again ... for a couple of days).

We hit the Weeping Radish on the way in and way out. They were featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives (? I think I have that right) a few months back and the exposure has done quite a bit for their traffic. There was a wait to be seated in the pub area both Saturday's (before noon even). Their brat offerings are still really good. Beer is not as good as it was in their hayday, but the Black is still pretty delicious. Dunkel was not bad either.

Hit both OBBS and Full Moon (in Manteo) during the week. OBBS is still solid both beer and food-wise. We have been to Full Moon several times before, but this was the first time since the brewery open. 7 beers on tap, from a hoppy blonde bitter to an impy stout. All were solid. The brewery side is easy to miss, so head left before you enter the restaurant to see that operation and the very small bar there. The reward is that they usually have something on cask, with a nice nut brown flowing on our visit.

Chips is still the place to stock up for the week and offers sip-and-shop with 6 taps flowing. Trio is nice, too, but a little pricier.

The Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo area now has at least 2 restaurants with a decent beer selection. Lisa's Pizza, a move-in day staple for us over the years, had nine taps going with Copper Line from Carolina in Chapel Hill, Long Hammer, Ranger from NB, a couple of Kona's, and Widmer Hefe. Nothing to get overly excited about, but still far better than it used to be.

Waves Market still has a decent selection of sixers for resupply, mainly SN with a bit of Stone throne in.

The big surprise for us was Good Winds. Located above the Kitty Hawk Kites shop, this place turned out to be our favorite hangout for the week. They run 12 taps and always have the same 12 flowing. Again, nothing over the top crazy but a good selection nonetheless. DFH 60 Minute, SN Pale, Uinta Baba, Highlands Kashmir, NB Raging Bitch, and Victory Golden Monkey were all nice surprises. The bottle list is solid and they offer 7 beers in cans. The menu is pretty current on their website.

Food here is very good, especially for the area. Seafood offerings are delicious, with the grouper sandwich, fish tacos, and crab cakes all a big hit. This is also a great place to go to catch the sunset over the sound.
