Can anybody recommend a good BA vanilla stout that doesn't take an arm and leg to get? Thanks!

Probably just easier to make your own. Take 1 BCBS '12. Add a drop of pure vanilla extract. Sip. Pocket the $80 you otherwise would have had to shell out to get a BCBVS.

Last years Karl Strauss Anniversary beer was quite nice.

No lie. I've tried similar things to re-create certain stouts.

Any ideas for a mint chocolate stout? My attempt was a total f**ckin fail.

this looks really good! Is it still around?

I've thought about doing this, but BCBS for me are hard get and I'm afraid of ruining one.

Do you stir, thumb the bottle top and hold the beer upside-down, or something else to mix the vanilla in? I'm going to try this.

We had the DuClaw BA Cocoa Vanilla Retribution this weekend that was really tasty. Not sure how available it is though.

If I follow what some people are saying on here, I could take my regular BCBS 12', put in coffee grounds, cherry, and vanilla and I would have a BCBVCVS.

only if you strained the coffee grounds out before you drank it.

I put a single drop into the bottle, then poured the bottle into a snifter. That gave it a nice mix. But I'm sure either method would work.

That seems safer than treating it like a Corona with a lime. Thanks for the tip.

just put the cap back on after you add the vanilla or add it while its in your glass and stir with a spoon not sure why youd stick your fingers in your beer

Havent tried it (have one waiting to try) but Maine Beer Co's Mean Old Tom is aged on vanilla beans. Not barrel aged to my knowledge, but vanilla none the less.
