I'll be heading to VA. Beach on work for 2 weeks this next Monday from Macon, GA and I'm looking for: 1) Where to find some good craft beers? 2) What should I be looking for that is either local or more accessible than what south GA can get? 3) Any advice on craft beers in VA. Beach or the surrounding areas?

Thank you so much! All help is greatly appreciated!

Yeah, just stop by Grape and Gourmet and tell them you are from GA looking to get some good stuff you can't get there....they'll steer you right.

And as riot said, use www.seekabrew.com to find out what we get that you don't. (though it is not 100% accurate)

Also, there is a Total Wine in the Hilltop area of Virginia Beach that has the biggest selection I've seen in Hampton Roads.

Wow...that is amazing stuff. I'm really sad to see that Hardywood Park is limited though. They had what looked like some really great beers! I definitely want to pick up some local stuff too.

Yeah, I'm afraid you'd have to drive to Richmond VA to pick up Hardywood, though if you bring beer from GA you could probably do some in person trades in the Va Beach area while you are here.

Almost forgot, before you leave the area make sure you have a few beers at The Birch in Norfolk, it's the best beer bar we have in the area (in my opinion).

I echo everything Mike's (Hanzo) said. And, if you like German food, check out the Beir Garden in Portsmouth on HIgh Street. Great people and a pretty good beer selection.

    Enjoy your stay!

If Williamsburg isn't too far for you, the Green Leaf has a good selection - their beer list also let's you know where stuff is from (in case you're unfamiliar with the brews). It's about an hour by car, so be careful if you're driving.

Locals to VA. Beach, I need your help! It turns out my company wont let me purchase alcohol with a company vehicle and Total Wine & More is just out of walking distance. Is there anywhere to find something decent close (within walking distance) to the beach? I'm staying in the south Courtyard Marriott by the ocean. I don't want to miss out on all the great beer places around here, I feel like there has to be something close by.

Do you have co-workers with you to rat you out or something?

(been google'ing, I can't seem to find an impressive place at the oceanfront)

Unfortunately, Birch is closed until the 23rd. Ben and Malia are in Belgium. You could go by Tap House or Public House in Ghent (Norfolk) or Bier Garden in Portsmouth. All have good selections.

Unfortunately yes. But I really appreciate the help Hanzo, I was hoping there'd be something. It kills me cause Total Wine is so close but not really walk-able and I really wanted to try Grapes and Gourmet. And thanks Beer-A-Lot but I'm talking about places on the beach here. I wish I could make it out to Norfold for a beer run.

There are bike rental places all around there....I'd grab a bike and hit The Porch (attached to Whole Foods and very near Total Wine) and have a few pints and their burger. Then hit that Total Wine (they have a killer selection).

I live on the Chesapeake Bay side of Virginia Beach and I don't get down to the oceanfront much . I do know a few places though . I think your hotel is at 37th street . Abbey Road at 22nd and Pacific has some good beers and food . There is a taphouse at 11th on the boardwalk . For beers to go close to you the Farm Fresh and Harris Teeter stores have a decent selection . A few blocks from the beach off of 31st (Laskin Rd.)

Hope this helps . When you make it out to Total Wine also checkout Whole Foods . Just a couple of blocks away and they get some great stuff on tap . Good prices and they fill growlers too .

Yeah , looks kind of lame . I haven't been there in a couple of years . As many bars as there are down there you would think they would have a few good ones .
