Yeah- at the time I joined BA I had pretty much gone 'dormant'. I spent the 80's and 90s travelling, going to festivals, hanging at breweries, all that good stuff. Having a family does steer you to other places (best thing I ever did, though), but the beauty of beer is that it can always be an important part of your life, even if it's no longer a driving factor. And sites like this one help keep things from getting too stale; drinking the same old things, shopping at the same old places.

Being old sucks in many ways, on the ski slope for instance, but on this site us old fucks can tell the young'uns that we were drinking fine beer while they were sucking their mom's tit.

I love being able to tell young kids to get to the back of the line, sonny, and watch their wimpy playstation playing asses think twice about doing something about it. We actually worked hard as kids with more than our thumbs pressing buttons. I've been working and playing hard since

I'm getting a little tired of not fitting into the demographics of these threads. Where are the BAs who are old enough to remember the "Dude Looks Like A Lady" Aerosmith; not old enough to remember the "Dream On" Aerosmith and not so young that they think Aerosmith is that dude from American Idol at?

I kind of hate Aerosmith, not sure why I used that example...

This thread reminds me of the joke about the old bull and the young bull, lookin' down at a herd of heifers.

Just wanted to tell all the older BAs that I have a lot of respect for them. Whether you've been drinking good beer for forever or tried something new after drinking 'crap' for you whole lives you're all cool in my book.

I'm partial to the cover by The Mission U.K. myself. I didn't realize it was an Aerosmith song for years.

I'm just glad to be alive still and able to enjoy the lifestyle that beer has become.
I'm old enough that when I spend 3 days in Bamberg I spend 2/3 of my time learning the history and culture and not much time getting drunk. I can go to Brugge and not spend 18 hours pounding beers that I can no longer appreciate or even taste. Good beer is often wasted on the youth.

not quite there yet (yeah this is the year I turn 40), but most of us aren't really concerned about spending much time on message boards, twitter, and self gratification..

but boy those old days of no good beers were friggin sorry times... no such thing as "craft" beer 20 years ago, whatever that means...

I'm not old enough to remember anything but the "Jaded" Aerosmith (which was/is horrendous if you ask me). But early/mid 70's Aerosmith... that's rock and roll music. The American Idol Steven Tyler can suck it, but "Walkin' the Dog" / "Same Old Song and Dance" Aerosmith - that's some real music.

Absolutely. If you were a beer geek 20 years ago you just scorn and weird looks. But at least you were easily pleased with finding something as lowly as Christian Moerlein lager.

Grew up drinking Genesee out of 7oz bottles at cookouts with friends of the parents. 5-6 years old, shooting .22s, driving lot cars on the mens laps and being allowed to split 1 bottle between 5-6 of us. My body might be 52, but I'll be 14 year old dumbass forever, I fear.

I'm in the demographic that listened to "Dream On" and "Sweet Emotion" on classic rock radio, then listened to Run DMC's remake of "Walk This Way" and said "hey man, that's Aerosmith," then eventually tuned out completely and listened to Nirvana, Temple of the Dog, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins... I don't think I've ever watched an entire episode of American Idol although I'm vaguely aware that that weird-looking guy from Aerosmith is on it.

These days I probably listen to the Stones, Allman Brothers, Bob Dylan, and Stevie Ray Vaughan more than almost anything else. The circle is complete.

Never heard of that beer. But in the early '90s, at least in the Pacific NW, there was plenty going on and it was neither weird nor scornful. I'm just glad to see that the rest of the country is finally catching up, although I'm still a little puzzled by the bourbon barrels, limited releases, tickets and lines. Either I wasn't paying attention or we just skipped over that phase up here.
