This really comes down to greedy people, I've seen tons of requests for 6 bottles....what ever happened to just asking for a single bottle just to try a beer?

All I was really getting at is I'd love to try Beat, one bottle, but I don't have a cellar full of vintage beer to trade or rare stuff so I am screwed.

I guess at the end of the day I am just bummed I can't get the stuff short of going to the dreaded bay.

From your ISO post, I only see Baller, BA Blackout, and Bramble as possibilities to land Beat. The rest aren't likely to get it done.

This is the community of bottle counts, availability, and rarity. Generally speaking, owners of limited releases don't care how hard it was to get a shelf beer locally. They don't want to give up something they value for a shelf beer, unless it is a one-off or something like that. You have driving and waiting in line, or membership costs, possibly trustee and shipping costs, etc. People put time and/or money into this hobby and want a fair return.

A great example is mine on this one. I was randomly in San Fran (I live in San Diego) last weekend, and drove straight from the airport 90 minuites to RR, then got back in the car and drove 2 hours to San Jose, where I was supposed to be going. So, 3 1/2 hours of extra time, not to mention the issue of checking all of the bottles in my baggege to get it home... that is why a trade has to be special for me to want to do it. I know it was $15, but with the time and effort... and frankly, how damn good that sour is, I just wouldnt want to give it up for another "shelf" beer.

like i said above, i traded for bramble, which is neither rare nor vintage. i mean to some degree you have to pay to play, but it's not like we all asked for wales.

trading is cyclical too. i imagine everyone's sending out a bunch of boxes right now, so getting them to add another box to the pile is going to take something really extreme (the incremental cost of each new trade is higher). in a month or so they'd be ready for another round of reasonable trades.

I agree with this 100%. Every request I have gotten for Beatification has been for 4 or more bottles.

I also agree with this 100%. I live within 10 minutes of the brewery and I've already been back 4 times. I've spent over $400 within the past week on beer and shipping labels. My limiting factor is definitely my budget. I can't afford to keep dropping large sums of money to supply 4 or more bottles to 1 trader.

I wouldn't mind doing some more trades if it was for 1 bottle and some extras. It's a lot cheaper on my wallet and it's not as time consuming. Hopefully in a little bit of time the craze will die down and people won't be looking for large quanities of Beatification.

PS: Please don't send me a message asking for Beatification.

Would I have to add anything to a FT: Beat to land a CBS?

I can tell you that I am looking for Beat and have CBS but probably wouldn't make that trade straight up. Mostly because of how hard it was to get more than one bottle and the fact that gouging occured and my price was higher than some.

Totally understandable, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a beat and if I land it I'll get into contact with you interms of working something out

Good luck. I have been come up empty so far. Good thing I will be in SD in a month and can just make do with whatever I can find on the shelves.

If you live in SF then the drive up is not that bad. Coming from south of San Francisco (Silicon Valley area), it is a different matter. Last night we went up and it was close to 3 hours to get there, much of this fighting traffic through SF. Take off work early, drive 3 hours through crappy traffic, spend a few hours at the brewery drive back and you are home at midnight.

Before last night I thought I would not mind doing the trip again for people needing a bottle or 2(assuming I can get something decent in return), but I have to say last night may have killed my will to do it again. Maybe I will change my mind on Saturday :stuck_out_tongue:

I live in South Florida, so I understand fully. Only difference is that you can drive east to get out of state, where I have to drive all the way up the shaft of this horrible dick of a state just to get out of it. 6 hours to the nearest state line? Yeah, it sucks. At least there's good beer in Tampa. :-)

I saved a few Beat for my regular trade partners without even know what they will send to me. Again, try to build good long term relationship with CA traders, don't think all of them are hoarders.

My primary goal in trying to get multiple bottles is not to deprive you (which would be mean/greedy). Instead, I would like multiple bottles because I like drinking beers I like and have liked more than I like trying beers. Sometimes, I like being able to see what time does for beer. Especially with a brewer like Vinnie, it allows me to get a sense of his philosophy, if you will - what aspects of the beer is he looking for when he releases a beer like Beatification, which is different in conception and execution from Temptation/Supplication/Consecration? How "balanced" is the flora in the barrel room? Is it a blend that's fairly appealing fresh but causes a beer to fall off a cliff with age? (there have been sours from highly regarded brewers that have done this). Now, am I entitled to this experience? Absolutely not, which is why I'm not too bummed about not being to repeat this experiment with other favorites of mine, such as KBS or BCS. But am I entitled to make the effort to have this experience? I would argue yes. That said, good luck, and I hope you're successful in your quest!
