Beer advocate has the most knowledgeable members I have seen anywhere. The Aldstrom brothers are engaging and make it a point to help us learn more, and the forums are where I get 80% of my knowledge. And they are more subjective and don't hand out 100's out to everything.

I feel the beer ratings on BA are more dependable than the ratings on RateBeer. It seems the ratings are ALWAYS high on RateBeer. Also, I've always wondered why at liquor stores in Wisconsin advertise the RateBeer ratings next to the bottles but there is not a single one from BA.

I do like the fact that everyone is really nice on here. I feel like I can message anyone and be friends with them. However if I were new to the craft scene and didn't know what I was talking about I might not be greeted as well. Not saying I know what I'm talking about these days either :stuck_out_tongue: I do love this site though...

1.) To learn about beer, the actual substance (the malts, hops and yeast used; this history; etc.)
2.) To get advice on homebrewing
3.) To find out when interesting beers are being released
4.) To stay up to date on beer stuff happening in my area
5.) To keep tabs on new breweries that AB/inbev and MillerCoors acquire

Research first and foremost also to track my beers and to kill time at lunch when at work - like right now.

This site is a source of keeping up to date about current beer releases, current events, entertainment, etc. when participating in the various forums. I also use the Places feature frequently for travel planning, and then for rating the places after I have visited the various breweries on my trips.

BA ones are everywhere in CO! See the RB ones too, some stores use both.

I use BA on the beer ratings side of things to store in the back of my memory the beers that I should be on the look out for when I'm travelling overseas.

To read about Central Waters beers :stuck_out_tongue:

But to echo the fine folks who've posted here already, I like using to to do beer research, arrange trades and chat about the beers we're drinking. It's basically a rough beer school and I have learned tons about beer ever since I started reading this site about a year ago.

BA generally has better forums despite what seems to be a dumbing down in recent times.

BA has the best reviews, according to ratebeer every beer ever made is a 100. BA also is the best laid out website of the bunch, very easy to navigate and accessible.
