I'm planning on drinking a De Glazen Toren Saison D'erpe-Mere tonight. The bottle is wrapped in paper and on the paper there are serving instructions, part of which read: "Do not remove wrap when serving" Does anyone have any idea why they would suggest that? I understand the wrap being used for storage purposes but why leave it on even while you're pouring the beer?

Maybe they are giving advice for playing tennis in a bathrobe...

I take the paper off, myself, but then again I like to live on the edge:wink: . Report back, though- I'd actually like to hear what the story is in this particular case.

ETA: here is a shot from Google images, showing just what you say

It's probably just their way of doing things, but I'd feel safer actually holding the glass rather than that loose paper.

Thanks. I've been using Google trying to find an answer but didn't use Google images. If I do find a reasonable answer and decide to do it this way, at least I have an example of how.

I've seen this before with other wrapped beers. The paper is simply untwisted and folded down a bottle a little way (as shown above). The paper is usually twisted at the bottom as well, so no need to worry about it slipping off the bottle.

Dude, it's paper... do whatever you want with it. It's not like it's a mattress tag or something.

Hahaha. Yeah, I know it's silly to care. I was just wondering if there was a specific reason but obviously it's just for show.

I heard Keith Stone will kill your cat and steal your girlfriend if you peel the paper...

Would that be similar to a ruler beating from a nun?

The paper prevents drops of beer from running down the bottle when serving so it doesn't get on your surface. Just like a dinner napkin around a bottle of wine.

It's so fun to say once you get it down though.

This is probably the most likely reason. Also, after reading reviews and seeing that most people had bottles that were gushers, I thought maybe the brewery had the foresight to put the paper on as an absorbent for overflow when that happened. However, my bottle did not gush at all. Also, if anyone cares to know, it was a good Saison but not as good as the BA rating leads one to believe IMO.

Because if you remove the wrapper you will find that it's just a really old bottle of Budweiser.
