This has become ridiculous. $10 for a 5oz pour. Come on really? With the latest releases in Texas of founders, southern tier, firestone walker. some of these prices Ive seen and heard of other people paying are ridiculous. Sucaba is a great beer so is KBS but ive had them many, many times before and just refuse to pay those prices. I wonder if the distrubutors are jacking the prices on the bars or are the bars jacking the prices? Are the bars jacking the price to pay for the distro's jacked price?
Unfortunately there are poor college kids that will pay these prices and other beer geeks who seem to lose all reason when something finally comes to austin. You can flame and say "well more for us" or whatever....... I am just stating this is craziness and unfortunately I do not see it ending anytime soon.
I can literally order out of state and have it shipped cheaper than these prices. If that was legal

if shelton was involved, I would say it was the distro...
but otherwise, I am not sure, i would assume it would be the bar. I was out saturday and had a few founders pours and a few others, with my brother, maybe 6-8 beers... our bill was $23. lol. I was shocked. I left a $20 tip.

Welcome to the East Coast, man.

This shit is tame compared to what goes on in places over there. $8 pints are a normal thing in Florida. I pay that every time I get a Two Hearted on draft down there.

Luckily our locals are still rather cheap.

I used to travel to the east coast alot (virginia, DC, Maryland) and $5-$6 a pint was the norm. I would gladly pay $7-8 a pint for a good beer.
but $10 for a 3rd of a pint is reDONKulous I do vaguely remember paying $6 for 12oz pours in richmond , VA but usually was not to bad

    I had $5 8oz pours of §ucaba/dba/pale/wookey and $26 bottle of 16th anniversary.

$8 10oz pour of kbs, $6 pints of dirty bastard, all day and reds rye.

All bar prices. I'd change where I consume.

Whoa. $26 is an amazing bar price for 16. I think that was around 20-22 retail.

FWIW... I paid $8.50 for 12oz of KBS at the Austin Saucer. Twice.

What bars are charging those prices? IMO that information needs to be out in the open too.

Did you ever go to Churchkey? They'd charge some stupid prices too, which is why I typically preferred Paradiso @ Dupont or Meridian Pint around there.

I think it's both the bars and distributors, they're finding people who will pay those prices (not me), so they figure why not get every penny. Personally, I prefer to drink at home on my patio with friends over and split some great beers. Plus it's way cheaper. The best way to vote, is with your wallet.

dafaq are you guys going and drinking that charges $10 for a 5oz pour? It's like when a place told me $11 for 1 bottle of SA DR #13. I laughed in their faces.

Last time I went to Churchkey (January) I went right at 4 when they opened. Chatted the bartender up the whole time, while drinking probably 6-8 beers plus a bunch of tastes (I was walking back to my hotel). Guy charged me $10 total.

So I dont mind their prices at all.

I don't think it can be called gouging. If a certain place is charging too much, don't go there.

If the prices at a bar are too far removed from a reasonable level, the prices will come down or the bar will take a loss. There aren't enough unknowledgeable people to support outrageous prices, and if there are, then the price obviously isn't outrageous.

A lot of those rare kegs come in sixtels, and they ain't cheap. $4 for an 8 oz pour would be breaking even in some cases. $10 for a 5 oz pour does seem pretty steep though.
