I was wondering how difficult it is to land regular Voodoo Black Magick (not the variants). I have the variants but would love a non barrel aged bottle to do side-by-side with them. I know it's been a while since the regular has been brewed, but I'm just wondering how tough they are to land. Thanks.

I don't think there is a "regular" one... I believe the older bottles were aged in Elijah Craig barrels. Unless I'm missing something? Obviously there is "regular" Big Black Voodoo Daddy.

Ah it looks like you're correct Mark. Thanks! I didn't do my HW. I change my question then. I guess I am curious how difficult it is to land the older vintages?

At this point I have no idea, but I remember landing one as part of a larger trade involving a couple vintages of Dark Lord among others (this was two years ago, one of my first trades).

I could have sworn a regular Black Magick (?2010/2011?) was opened at the Voodoo release party last month. one of the assistant brewers even got a taste and he had never had it before. whatever it was, it was really good!

They have never bottled a non-aged Black Magick base beer. The last time Black Magick was released prior to the most recent Barrel Room Collection was 2011. There probably aren't a ton of bottles around; and if people have bottles, they usually only have 1 or 2 at the most. Long story short - the base beer has never been bottled. And to get prior vintages would be very difficult.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I won't be landing prior vintages then.

He was simply saying that there is not a non BA Black Magick that has been bottled....there are earlier vintages out there and available for trade. Just need the right person to see your ISO:FT.

I understood what he meant. I just meant that if they were difficult to land, then I probably won't be landing them.

this is correct. we have released black magick two other times prior to the barrel room collection release, which is how it will be branded from now on. the first batch of black magick was a 2009 release aged in elijah craig barrels. the second was 2011 that was aged in buffalo trace barrels. all black magick is barrel aged, the base stout has never been released in any form.

between friday evening and saturday morning when the wrist bands were handed out I had opened 3 bottles of the 2011 randomly to share with different groups of people. i tried to spread the love with as many people as possible. i believe the last bottle i opened was shared with one of the workers/volunteers as we congregated a bit between the pulled pork tent and hot dog stand

admittedly one of the bottles i opened was at a moment of the evening/morning when many people were passed/passing out. I ended up drinking most of it myself.

to the OP: bottles are out there. We were able to buy cases of it at the local distributor when it was released. I got the first case when it came in and weeks later bought a second because the high price tag kept it around. I know at least 2 different bottle shops that sold singles at or around $8 a bottle.

There were certainly an awful lot of bruised livers by "sun"rise on Saturday! I know I had quite the case of Palate Fatigue by that time...

It was delicious the two times I tried it at the Voodoo release courtesy of stakem! Beer is absolutely on point, even with a year+ of age on it. Well worth seeking out IMO.

Well, its a 1k bottle count brewery only release BA stout...not sure a beer like KBS is going to land it.

most people who have the Voodoo stuff are in Founders markets - so they already have KBS. Have to go outside the Ohio, Michigan, PA, Virginia, NY radius for FT beers. I know somebody said they would do a Chocolate Rain for 2 of the Black Magicks.

Since it was mentioned that there was a time when they were available fairly easily, does anyone think a BA Bigfoot would do it? I'd post the ISO/FT but I don't want threadshitters if I'm off. Thanks.

Edit: To be clear, I'm talking about the older versions, not the recent Barrel Room Collection bottles that were brewery only.

Again, BA Bigfoot is in the same market. Go to seekabrew. Use that wonderful tool.

Thank you both for the response. Seems like I don't have the fire power considering the similar distribution footprint of each state.
