TOO strong maybe not TOO good?

When I started drinking craft beers I was mainly into the ambers, lagers, pale ales, pilsners, etc.. From what I was drinking, the BMC quality, or lack of, this was a hugh upgrade in taste. The craft beer was far more flavorful and stronger than what I was used to. Then I found the stronger brews. The IPA's, strong ales, stouts, porters, barleywines,, doubles, triples, the Imperials, etc.. I love these styles because of their potency. But on the down side it is now harder to go back to the lagers, pale ales, etc. that I used to really enjoy because they can't match the strength of the stronger beers. I kind of miss drinking these other styles but they just don't give me that KICK that I so much enjoy.

Anyone else have this problem if it really is one?

I don't have this problem since I'll drink a pale ale before a bigger beer and have zero interest in lager.

I started out the other way around. I went from Harpoon IPA to DFH 90 and Hoptimum, and went through a time where it didn't interest me if it was under 8%. Stupid.

I'm actually pretty sick of these huge beers by now. They have a time and a place, no doubt, but lately a low ABV is actually an enticement to buy.

Edit: The exception is English Barleywine. I'm a fiend.

I've been aware of this, and have tried to temper my consumption of stronger, darker beers with lighter ones. I think people will chime in and say it is a problem. It just has to be a conscious effort on your part to include the lagers and pale ales when you're drinking.
Although my tastes will always be partial to stronger and darker beers (though I'm not a big fan of Imperial Stouts), I don't think there is anything better than a good lager or hefeweizen during the summer, when you're outside barbecuing or hanging by the pool.

I am a beer style "*****". I have no problem switching styles and abvs, very high and very low.

It might be you're building up your level of alcohol tolerance.

Just out of curiosity what is it about lagers that turn you off?
To the OP I had a few years of loving the high ABV stuff, now I almost have to force myself to drink anything stronger that 7%.

ABV plays no role in what I drink. I'll quaff a 16% Grand Cru one night and a 5% pilsner the next. I agree that, in terms of flavor, it's tough to compete with the double, triple, imperial brews. If you drink them for a month other stuff will taste comparatively tasteless. That's why you need to switch it up from time to time...or just drink whatever you want

There are some very strong beers that are light in color... and some dark beers that are eminently sessionable, like the Moo Thunder that's in my hand.

With that said, your avatar is delicious, and their eisbock is without peer.

    That's a patently false statement.

Just don't care much for the flavor of a lager, though I did seem to enjoy Great Divide Hoss last year. But in general, lager leaves me...meh.
I can say the same for belgians, pilsners, and sours among others.

You are right, I should have said more specifically stronger tasting, higher abv beers vs. lighter (in flavor), lower abv beers. And yes, my avatar is delicious, though their eisbock is the only eisbock I've ever had. Absolutely fantastic beer, I just have nothing to compare it too.
