I am just getting into sour brews and was wondering what are some easily obtainable (trade for shelf beer/limited shelf beer) sour beers from American breweries across the country? I know there are the 3-4 Russian River year-round sours but what others do you guys recommend? So far I have had Odio Equum, FV13, Riserva '11, RU-55, and Funk Metal and enjoyed them all. Thanks!

Not exactly a sour but Green Flash Rayon Vert is exceptional and widely available.

I will have to check that one out. We used to mix the Framboise with Grey Goose in highschool. Makes a pretty tasty mixed drink.

Psht, fancy non white trash types. We rolled with Monarch vodka and Keystone light when we didn't have any shake or mexi brown.

boon oude geuze, tilquin gueuze, st. louis gueuze fond tradition, duchesse de bourgone, monks cafe flemish sour are some i can think of that are on the shelf here in FL, not sure what distro is like but if you see those i'd recommend. Might not be world class but are interesting and worth a few bucks.

OP asked for good American made sours. I will add Jolly Pumpkin and Cascade to the list, as well as our local Captain Lawrence. Of these I think only JP is available to OP.

Jester King sours are pretty much year-round now. They're either releasing new ones or re-releasing them just as the current ones are leaving the shelves.

Pretty easy to trade for if you find someone in Texas.

Depending on where in MD the OP is, a trip up to Philly will reward you with extremely overpriced, though delicious, Russian River sours.

As cavedave mentioned - Cascade. They sell their stuff online: shop.cascadebrewingbarrelhouse.com/category.sc?categoryId=2

Not sure if they ship to MD specifically, and right now the pickin's are pretty slim. Good stuff though.

Looks like they do. According to their website:

Due to applicable laws and our agreement with our carrier we do NOT ship to the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota and Utah. If you order beer to be delivered to one of these states we will cancel the order and notify you.

    Wish they shipped to NJ.

great thread, same boat as OP...I didnt want it to happen but I am officially a sour fan...as if chasing stouts wasnt exhausting enough....I have a few BA pricks to thank for plying me full of the stuff at tastings

Not to hijack but any recommendations for sour/wild stouts and barleywines would be appreciated. Had a sour barleywine from italy on tap recently and really enjoyed it

    Sour stouts:
Tart of Darkness - bruery (probably one of the sourest beers I've had)
    Madrugada Obscura - Jolly pumpkin
