12 pack of New Belgium Shift, Crisp, clean, hoppy, and easy to drink, plus only clocks in at 5%.

I've seen session defined as 4.5% or lower so Bitter American and several others fit the bill. Don't be that guy.

"Only 5% " ? It wouldn't be much of a session drinking that strength! More like just a few pints.

If you can get it, I liked Southern Star's Bombshell Blonde.
Otherwise I guess something Oskar Blues or Sixpoint would be reliable

If Surly distro'd to your area, I'd recommend Bitter Brewer.

Eeuphoriawas last brewed in november as it is a seasonal. I found that out by picking one up in a mix six last summer. Old ass nastiness.

My vote goes for mama's lil yella pils.

The very site that you are typing that message on defines it as 5% or less, so while mine doesn't fit, others certainly do.

True that but by definition, session beer has to be 4% abv or less. Until we here, those of us in the US, have access to an abundant supply of true session beers, I have to go by, not so begrudgingly, the 4.5% interpretation as that adds a few more beers that I can actually get.

That's true, but the Op mentioned Old Chub as a brew he was considering. So i believe that opened it up to more moderate ABV kinda brews, and he was looking for a better brew in a can vs just a low alcohol brew.

It says session ale right on the can.

I like to avoid internet arguments, but I'll point out that America has redefined a few beers styles, and there's no reason American can't redefine "session beer." It's not international law, it's just beer.

    Flame away.

I'd go with sixpoint or dales pale ale. I really like magic hat #9 in cans too. Easy to drink and great for trips

This is America, we make our own definitions and we like things big! If it's under 5% it's an American Session!!! Hahaha

I wasn't aware of that, it is not distributed to my area so I picked it up around Thanksgiving when visiting family. Too bad as it would make a great summer beer.

That New Belgium Shift lager is pretty decent for a session beer. I saw that they're making it in 12 ounce cans now too as opposed to 16's.
