All time top 5 or Texas top 5? I don't think anything I've had from Texas breweries would make it into my all time top 5, but JK would take 1 or 2 spots if we're just talking Texas.

OT for the thread: I'd have to go with Temptress given the constraints. Everything else I'd consider is seasonal or draft only.

It is a Texas beer thread, but to make it more obvious...I would put Live Oak Hefe and 512 Pecan Porter up with anything I have had anywhere. Nothing from JK comes close.

I like Boxers and Funk Metal more than either of those (price notwithstanding) , but I can definitely see where you're going with that.

You are entitled to your opinion, but FYI you are wrong.. Live Oak Hef blows everything JK put of the water.

Nothing against Live Oak Hefe, there are just other Hefes I prefer :stuck_out_tongue:. It's also more difficult to get my funky-sour fix than my hefe fix in bottle form and JK serves admirably there.

With all this JK talk I want to clarify... My original response was more for easily accessible beers. Funk Metal is easily one of the top three beers I've ever had. Granted I'm a bit less experienced than others but I absolutely love it! Boxers is high up there as well. Can't wait to visit the brewery...

I... can't select things that are easily available very easily. I'm too much of a *****. But I'll have to agree with everybody re: Live Oak Hef and 512 Pecan Porter. Buried Hatchet is also quite nice, though it's hard to beat Old Raspy at the price point. Things I like/love from Texas that aren't quite so easily gotten:

    Primus
Old Treehugger (oh god I need this in my life)
    OG Black Metal
    RU-55
    Black Crack
    WBADPP(AOPJAIJL:FKJL:IWHHH)
    PUMPKINATOR
    Weasel/Beer Geek Rodeo
    BBA Hellfighter

...I looked at the top Southwest list to see if I was missing anything, and realized that--indeed--I am a huge *****.

    Jeff,
I will respond directly to you since you quoted me. I have bought lots and lots of bottles of your beer. In fact I bought an El Cedro just today. You have a very solid product and I absolutly enjoy them. But if the fact that I said I have not been wowed by anything lately would make you respond that you want to send all of your beers out of state then go ahead.

    John,

Sent you a beer mail. But for the benefit of others, the fact that anyone appreciates what we do is very exciting for us. Perhaps contrary to appearances, I actually try to refrain from posting but for answering direct questions and correcting any factual inaccuracies. I don't want to stifle open discussion on the board. Unfortunately, I can be a little thin-skinned, in part because I'm thin-skinned, but also because I invest an enormous amount of emotional energy into making our beer.

Sorry for singling your post out. I should of responded to the thread, or better yet, not responded and kept my focus on trying to make the best beer we can.

Eh, if we can complain, comment, or gush over products, I think it is OK for a brewer/owner of a place to chime in with their opinions every once in a while.:grinning:

RU-55 absolutely a phenomenal beer. El Cedro in bottles is great as well. (some reason on draught el cedro was weird).
    Lost gold IPA
First (experimental batch) of pine belt pale ale. shit was the real deal! cant stand the palisade version.

I see myself drinking a lot of El Cedro over the summer. And I'm gonna have to go find some Zoe.
