Who cares ? If people want to discuss a beer they disliked so much that they poured it down the drain, let them.

As a longtime serious beer drinker I love to see just what it takes for somebody to not be able to finish a beer. Also IF I read reviews(which I don't) it could put a particular review into perspective, knowing that a reviewer really hates a particular beer or style.

So what exactly is the "Beer Talk" forum supposed to contain? Reviews are great, but they are not really a conversation about beer.

The answer is obvious: To continue the bashing of Rogue Voodoo Maple Bacon.

I've only ever drain poured bad bottles. I hat a Victory Golden Monkey and a Troegs Dreamweaver that both smelled and tasted like hot dogs....Definitely not what they were supposed to taste like, that's the only time I've ever drain poured anything is when it's bad. Even if something is too sweet or not quite what I like, I'll finish it. It has to be skunked or infected or whatever for me to do that.

Some people prefer to have a "live" conversation about the beers, myself included. I don't review beers for a variety of reasons. However, I enjoy discussing my opinions on beers in active threads. It's an entertaining thing to do when I have a little down time at work. Writing reviews, much less reading them, is not fun in the least (to me at least).

Let me add, that I do agree that "X is better than Y" and "drainpoured this and not that" threads are a bit silly, but this is a beer website, people are inevitably going to want to compare and contrast brews and have a conversation about it. I don't understand the user attempts at policing it. If you don't like them, move on.

Well, in my opinion many of the reviews are too technical and boring. So I see where you're coming from. I generally just look at the scores and a couple of short reviews. The longer ones that have paragraphs on lacing don't mean a whole lot to me.

You should check out my reviews - I try to make them entertaining.

    "RESPECT BEER"
What a dumb statement to take seriously... Sure it's one of the website's cliche things to say, and it's basically the slogan, but give me a break. We're consumers, and we absolutely owe no respect to the beer a particular brewer charges us to drink. They get PAID BY US for what they make, and if I wanna say it wasn't to my liking, I will feel no shame in continuing to do so. As users of this site, we all love beer, and most of us enjoy talking about it. Why create a thread to complain about certain threads when you can very easily ignore it and find one that you like? At least "drainpour" threads are talking about beer. This thread isn't even beer related...

I skip the drainpour step and just throw away cases of beer I assume I won't like. So much easier.

So far the most obnoxious and annoyingly repetitive thread types that I've seen on BA are the threads about "Why all the drainpour threads?" "Why all the versus threads?" "Why all the favorite IPA threads?" "Why all the this year/previous year threads?" etc etc etc. For every thread topic that is considered lame and repetitive, there's a just as lame and repetitive thread bitching about it.

Why are there all of these threads? Because this is an open forum to talk about beer. Maybe there are new members, and they didn't see last month's drainpour thread. Or maybe they're just getting into a new style and want to start a new discussion. I personally started a thread about how much I didn't like Chimay Blue after trying it for the first time and wondered if I was missing some aspect of the style. I got a lot of good feedback and discussion on the beer and style, but some people felt that it was worth their time to say what a pointless thread it was. If it bugs you, don't click on it, don't read it, don't read the responses, just click back. Otherwise, let people discuss beer in ways they see fit on a beer discussing forum.

I can understand drainpour threads. I didn't understand the concept of drainpouring at first, but I've opened a bomber or two by myself of beers that I absolutely did not enjoy. My body isn't a garbage disposal, and finishing beers I dislike isn't worth the calories or the liver activity. Thus, down the drain they go. I still absolutely respect the brewer and beer, I won't like every beer I try.
