Or Gal. I recently met the manager of the beer department in a local liquor store. We got to talking about craft beer for a good 20 minutes. When we were done and had enjoyed our "beer talk" he gave me his card and said to call him with any beer inquiries. I went to his store the other day and asked him to recommend a low abv brew but with a nice flavor kick. He told me to try Southern Tier Live bottle conditioned Pale Ale. Great choice. I really enjoyed the beer a lot. He knew his stuff. He is also going to put aside a few Enjoy By 5.17.13's for me when they come in. It's good to have a Beer Guy! Or Gal!

No doubt...drinking buddy/ delivery driver for distribution company. Get the scoop from him when and where brews are going. Also knowing a store owner is good when you can call in a get him to put a couple up for you, and from time to time get to try some of the delicious beers he has traded for.

You gotta have one...makes life a little easier with the harder to find brews when they come in...I like to bring my beer guy some stuff that I trade for that he can't get...or some home brews....bribery goes a long way!! :-)

Just remember to take care of your beer guy. Beers outside of his distro work wonders. Its a two-way street you know

Anyone who wants rare/limited releases get to know your beer guy. I give my loyal guys the best treatment. 4 bottles of KBS only goes so far.

Yeah. His name's Rob and he's the owner. Rob keeps more beer on the shelf than he does wine or liquor. Rob's had as many as 1400 beers in the store. Rob installed UV filters on all the lights and UV screens on the windows because he wants your beer to be safe from harmful UV rays. Rob has tons of beer in the store's cellar which in time makes its way to the shelves. Rob will sell you a single of anything in the store so you don't have to buy a 6 or 4 pack just to try it. Rob will put "drink by" dates on the shelves so you don't have to look for it or figure it out. Rob has a walk-in where the BMC are kept out of sight because they are too ugly to be seen with the craft brew. Rob slashes prices on beer that is slow to move and cannot be cellared. Rob carries all bottle sizes up to 9 liter. Rob also packs and loads my beer hauls for the long trip home. Rob is the man.

Buy your beer guy a ticket to Dark Lord Day, or at least get him a bottle. Bring him along to FOBAB. Share some of the wicked cool limited items that he saves for you. There's no length that is too far to keep your beer guy loyal and thinking of your (collective) best interest all the time.

Nope. With a little diligence and a reasonable level of organization, I manage to acquire just about any beer I want that surfaces anywhere within a 20-mile radius.

I enjoy discussing beer with fellow enthusiasts (paid or unpaid) as much as anyone, but it should never be a prerequisite to getting the beers I want. My money is as good as anyone else's. The day when I have to know the secret handshake is the day I hang up my gloves.

Yes, I do and it's awesome. The store I frequent recently set aside a 4 pack of KBS for me and they're most likely going to set aside Parabola for me when they finally get it! Awesome!! Also, the second I walk in they know what I'm going to ask for.

EDIT: I also carry on wonderful beer conversations with them and I also tell them about the prices at other stores. It may cost me an extra buck or 2 in the long run, but it helps them know something about the shops within 25 miles.

I give my beer guy homebrew and out of distro stuff I trade for. He makes sure I know the minute something new comes in, and he always stashes a couple somewhere for me. Its good to have a beer guy, but you gotta keep him happy! I have a box from Belgium coming with a little something just for my beer guy!
