Either the ISO/FT forum really is the wasteland that I keep hearing it is or VT traders are as elusive as their beers! I'm a noob (and a huge lover of IPAs!) trying to score my first taste of Heady Topper. I realize offers of CCB shelves for HT arent enticing to anyone outside of Vermont, but I thought I might be able to trade quantity to someone that can get it easily. Am I way off base here?

There are VT traders, but not a ton of them, and most of them are likely very burnt out on trading HT/HF/Lawson's. For a while a lot of the HT traders were people from MA driving up there on weekends, but with availability getting tougher and tougher, I think it's maybe just a rough time to trade for HT.

I'd try to up your trade ammo a bit if you really want to get it done - Cigar City actually distributes to Vermont sometimes, plus HT for CC locals is something anybody in VT could pull off any time they wanted.

The first rule of VT traders is you do not talk about VT traders.....

They are definitely still out there. And they are definitely still trading Heady Topper. You just need something enticing enough. They get quite good distribution up there too, just to keep in mind.

First rule is don't trade with VT traders that wear baseball shirts, glasses and smoke cigars in their avatar.

Seriously, put a little effort into this. Your in Florida, the new aledged epicenter of Berliners. Find some and offer them up, I'd even hook you up with some Heady for those.

CCB and 7th Sun also make awesome berliners that someone who may be from VT may be interested in parting with some Heady Topper for.

Also, what Cbeer said is accurate. Most of us up here have sent out a LOT of heady topper, along with the other locals. It gets to be really expensive, really quick (this is trading in general). Once you realize that, you slow down and start just trading for the stuff you're really interested in, as opposed to trying to try everything from around the country.

Good job ET678, you've effectively lured out a grip of people I can now harass through BMs into trading their Heady to me.

    haha

But seriously, this was an informative thread. Thanks.

All the Vermonters and all the Portlanders got together and just trade with each other and ignore the pleas of the rest of you ;-)

I get bombarded with goandpickitupformebro offers. I appreciate things like the ability to string together more than three words at a time, and about 90% of the random messages I get go straight to the round file due to that. I'm definitely getting burned out on trading outside of my regular trading partners. There is a great group of Vermont traders I think, but demand so far exceeds supply that I know it's been tough for people.

Just keep trying, eventually one of us will hook you flatlanders up.

If you're in the Tampa area I'll just give you a HT, I have plenty. You're best bet for a regular VT trader is to find a noob like yourself who lives up there and is a fan of CCB, most of the VT traders who have been on here more than 6 months have established their regulars and have no need to just 'hook someone up.' I know this advice is counter to the noobs shouldn't trade with noobs rule, but I think its something you should consider. I don't ever hard sell any of my regulars, if they ask for something down here I do my best to provide it (no matter what the bottle limit may be). Take this into consideration when making your first trade with someone you want to establish as a regular.

Also, unless they live in Waterbury, it really isn't that easy to just go pick up some HT. It gets canned on Mon and Thursday and sometimes sells out that day, but usually the day after. Coming from someone who was just up there, none of the breweries are within a short drive and HF really is a bitch to get to.

Meh, its kinda true. It's not a tough drive, but it's at least an hour on the road, plus probably waiting close to an hour at the brewery, then an hour back. All of a sudden a "quick trip to HF" turns into a three hour tour. At this point I make the trip to a) get myself some awesome beer and b) hook up regular trading partners and friends or rarely: c) chase something I'm really interested in trying.

such is the life of a VT beer trader, haha.

I agree with ya. I've made the trip once, myself. And to try and do Warren Store (or other Lawson's place), Alchemist, and HF is one day both takes a full day and is a little bit of a tight time squeeze. If you spend too much time hanging out at the Warren Store or something, then you could easily miss HF. And if you spend too much time at HF, you might miss out on Heady or Lawson's.

First-world problems, sure, but it understandably adds to the lack of a desire to get that stuff and then trade it on a frequent basis.
