Short rant here and I know that in PA alcohol is over taxed and overregulated but in one bottle shop in my town they charged $21.99 per 4 pack of CW Peruvian Morning and BBS. That shop also charged $20.99 for a regular bottle of Speedway Stout. So I stop by another bottle shop on the way home today to get some fresh Double Trouble and the 4 pack was $15.29. Expensive, but I allowed myself a 4 because it's Double Trouble. Then I took a bottle of Doom to the counter and the price was $24.99! I couldn't buy that on principle. Does anyone else think those prices are ridiculous or do I just have Doom taste on a Hop Stoopid budget? Nothing against Hop Stoopid.

They're beyond ridiculous. Where I'm at I pay ~$14 for a four of any CW BB beer, ~$15 for Doom, and ~$12 for Double Trouble. I hope they kiss you before taking your money.

You live near Philly? I would have no interest in drinking beer at those prices per volume. IMO 4 packs of high quality high ABV beers should almost always be $13-$14 or under or else its overpriced and look for a cheaper alternative. Always something comparable at a better price point. For instance, Yeti for a 4 pack usually runs around $15-17 in Frederick area and yet I can find Old Raspy anywhere for about $11-$12 and several other comparable RIS's to satisfy my tastes for that style. I've tried Yeti, and love it, but don't have much interest again for that price as there are plenty of other options at better price points. Maybe that is just me though.

Nuts. Local bottle shop here with Doom at 12.99. Treats customers well. These places only got a case so trying to make a score off such a limited release is just bad business. Wouldn't go back to someone selling it at 24.99.

Your gripe isn't with taxes and regulations. It's with the people who continuously purchase high priced beers. If folks in the craft community continue to buy overpriced beers then no one, not the store, not the distributors, not the breweries will have any reason to lower the prices.

Jesus, sorry you get stuck with that pricing. With those price points I would be broke or drinking macro. Dude, that is a crime and I understand your rant...

That's Pennsylvania for you. I used to live in Philly and when I came back a few weeks ago for a wedding, I did a few IP trades and one BA told me he usually gets his stuff in NJ rather than the bottle shops here in Philly. It's pretty bad. I saw a BlackOps going for $35 and a Sucaba for $28. That's terrible price gouging. So basically the only bottles I bought from stores were Russian River sours (and when I look at CA prices, its actually not that much more in Philly).

Drive to NY/NJ/MD/OH if you have that option... I'm guessing you don't, though :slight_frown:

Actually, I live near enough to a great bottle shop in MD and I stock up when I go there. They don't get Founders or Bells though.

    This

The issue is that despite these high prices, the beers are selling (albeit slowly). Why would a store lower the price of beer, if the beer still sells?

Holy crap!!! All of those are way over what I pay in the Cleveland market. SS is 12.99, DT is 13.99, and Doom just hit at 16.

I would have guessed it was someplace like The Foodery or Hawthorne's in Philly. The prices in the city are a joke really. I'm in the suburbs close to a Wegmans so I don't get ***** but many people do in the area who want good beer.
