It was a pleasure meeting each of you at OMB. Fruh Bock in the sun. Not too shabby.

Hope the rest of your evening was fun. Please come back again soon!

It's almost criminal how little love Common Market is getting, considering everything they've done for the Charlotte beer scene. But I guess that's what happens when you don't suck at the teat of OMB. Have to wonder if all these BA trips are being sponsored by OMB.

Or it could be that Charlotte is extremely lucky to have one of the best brewers of authentic German-style lagers anywhere in the United States, and the Brothers appreciate that fact.

You do know they had lunch and beers at Common Market, right?

The Bros. have always visited OMB, yes, but they also make many stops during their visits. Their itinerary is filled with old favorites and new stops, and they can only visit so many places. No need to get all worked up about it.

And as herrburgess said, they are big fans of German styles any way.

Cool, it's what, they're 3rd trip to Charlotte? And they finally find time to fit in lunch at the Southend location? I still never heard a good explanation for why they visited Kickstand (which is a joke of a beer account) the first time around but skipped the Plaza Midwood CM just down the road. I'm legitimately curious if OMB is sponsoring these BA trips considering how many trips to Charlotte they've taken yet I haven't heard of any trips to Asheville or Raleigh/Durham.

I'll have to defer to the Bros. as to why they visit the places they do, but I don't personally feel they need to explain themselves. Kickstand's a great place, but you're right that the beer selection isn't on the level of a Common Market. That being said, I know some of the OMB guys and have never heard anything whatsoever to suggest they sponsor these trips.

Even after three visits, it's impossible for the Bros. to visit all of our bars, breweries and restaurants. We should be thankful that we have so many great spots, and that the Bros. have made a few trips out to experience a fraction of them.

Again, perhaps it is because OMB is something very special, in that it is extremely difficult to find authentic German-style lagers being brewed by U.S. craft breweries; whereas the beers that are being brewed in Asheville and Raleigh -- while (in some cases very) good -- might not distinguish themselves from the pack the way OMB's beers do.

Kinda ironic that doing something traditional in the U.S. "craft" beer scene has now become unique....

What has Common Market done for the Charlotte beer scene?

I know when I come up from Columbia I'd much rather go to OMB than any of the Common Market locations.

I regret that this has turned into a discussion about who's better, because it really shouldn't be. Common Market has done a lot for the Charlotte beer scene for about a decade, and of course OMB has as well since coming to Charlotte in 2009. Both are very different institutions that serve the same goal.

Can't we all just get along? :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, and welcome to BA, hophustler!

Just to set the record straight, we found out about the Bros. visit when they emailed us at the end of last week to let us know they'd be swinging by. Surprised as we were that they were coming to Charlotte again, we nevertheless were pleased to welcome them, as we always will be.

It is particularly distressing to see any conversation phrased in a way that suggests "OMB or Common Market," as Common Market was one of the first establishments in Charlotte to carry our beer, and they have continued to support both our brand and all Charlotte beers. We consider them to be both customers and friends of ours.

Needless to say, we think the entire Charlotte beer community should be thrilled that we have established a scene that garners so much attention from respected national beer experts, and we love how that reflects on the hard work and dedication of every local brewer and craft beer bar.

Common Market is the best thing about Charlotte. Better than OMB, NODA Brewing, Pinkys, Growlers Pourhouse, Cantina 1511/Bad Daddy's, Food Truck rallies, Soul Gastrolounge, anything. You can find solid breweries, good restaurants and everything else that makes Charlotte better in any major city but I've never found any place that offers everything Common Market does with their own unique atmosphere. CM is what I miss most about Charlotte.

Easy there fellas......for those who scrambled around just to give a verbal tug to the Bros and those questioning their visitation itinerary just relax and put your dicks back in your pants they'll be back. I agree with Hophustler in regards to CM, cause without their unique approach CLT would still be a cookie cutter city with zero soul.

Yes, it is a big conspiracy that they only visited CM on one of their three trips.

Or maybe, just maybe, last time they came they wanted a burger instead of deli sandwich.

You forgot to add the other things that CM is better than: a *free* zj, the nation of Canada, the entire oeuvre of the Beastie Boys, Nelson Mandela, Double IPA in general, eradicating polio, and committed, lifelong monogamous relationships.

What's the best place to get beer in Charlotte (if you can only pick one place)?
