LOL, there are a few places like that in Houston. Trying to be sociable, I would go with my old roommate sometimes. Oh, I hated those places, I guess I am not the sociable type in those situations:slight_smile: . I would rather be with the regular cigar smokers (even though I don't smoke) on the patio of the Gingerman on a lazy Saturday. Like today.

Im not a fan of sports, which is pretty much what is on 99% of bar screens. So as far as Im concerned, get rid of them. I much prefer sitting alone, contemplating life, infinity, and 42

How do I put down a gallon of Miller Lite and watch NASCAR if there is no TV?

I only like baseball in person or at the bar, and prefer racing that way too. So if I want to catch one of those events I head to a bar with TV's.

If I'm just wanting a beer I go to a different bar.

The gripe I have with my fav pub is not the TV... it's the @#$@# music! It's so deafening you can barely talk to each other. We like having dinner there, but my son won't even go because it's too loud

I know this sounds pretentious, but I always wanted to open a "bar"/club for intellectual types. My only fear would be hipsters....

I am opening a beer bar. It will have a tv available only for the local NFL and MLB games (will even have a sign that says so). Otherwise it will be off because we do not want a bunch of people getting all zombie mode staring at endless sports center reruns or other crap. Conversation is fun, it's what bars were traditionally all about - socializing. When local games are on though...hell yeah they're fun to watch and people would likely go elsewhere or stay home if we didn't have them on.

Just my opinion obviously but I believe it is a happy middle ground. 'Muricah!

I can only imagine the conversations about Darwin after everyone has had 3 or 4 IIPA's.

    If it's the totally hilarious alien / b-movie ****, I'd love it!
Went to a bar in san juan that played bollywood on the tv... several drinks later, that too was quite amusing.

Gotta say, I dug watching the original Lolita at Green Lady in Chi-Town, one of the few times I've wished the volume wasn't muted...

Frankly, outside of a small handful of pure sports bars, I've never experienced major problems with overly-expressive sports fans, lack of conversation whilst a screen was on, or pretty much any of the issues already mentioned above (save excessively loud music on occasion). Sounds like people are frequenting shitty bars for no reason...

To me, TVs are just like magazines or the Darwin books: they're there for those who want to use them, and they're easily ignored by those who do not.

Well, considering 1/2 the time I go to bars is to watch a specific ball game, I vote yes. But agree, sports bars with TVs, meat markets w/o.

Definitely like TV's in a bar. I love my sports teams, especially during baseball season when games are most days, and honestly I would rather have check the score with a quick glance to the TV then by checking my phone which is much ruder I believe and can sometimes suck me into dicking around on my phone.
