It divides craft-beer drinkers and macro-beer drinkers apart. To a person who only drinks adjunct lagers any beer without it is going to taste weird; a common reaction when trying to introduce macro drinkers to craft. And, from my experience, the opposite is true for craft-beer drinkers. The longer I go without drinking an adjunct lager the less I like it when I do. I guess that makes me a beer snob. When a friend gives me an adjunct, I’ll drink it but I don’t like it.

A friend would know better than to give me an AAL.

And I wouldn't drink it, any more than I'd eat a food I don't like just because a friend gave it to me.
    "Here, bro. Have some cantaloupe."
"Er, no thanks. Don't like it."
"What's the matter!? Are you some kind of snob!? I'm your friend! I gave you that cantaloupe. You should eat it! Fruit's fruit, man!"

Why is it only beer has some special aura that you have to drink it if offered?

So, if you're basing your preferences strictly on the use of adjuncts, you'd prefer AB's current all-malt Michelob to Surly's Abrasive Ale, the latter of which uses "Brewers Crystals" (basically dehydrated corn syrup) as an adjunct?

    Cool thought.

I had an all day macro day yesterday at my father-in-laws. Ice chest loaded with PBR, Schaefer and Bud. I was pleasantly content and found the PBR went very well with the BBQd chicken. It's been ages since I've done that and right now I'm devoid of that staunch adversity.

    It's beer.

I don't know. I think it an invite to share something and enjoy life and to say 'no' seems rude to me. And yes it's different with beer than say cantaloupe, I think. But that's not really where I was going with this. Adjunct affect the taste just like salt, if you use salt a lot, food taste weird without it.
So to convert someone too craft you first have get them off the salt, so to speak.

I'm basing my preferences off of taste. I haven't had a Michelob in years and have never even seen Surly's Abrasive Ale, so I can't relate to your post. But I will make it a point to try a Michelob. If I like it then it may prove my point.

So many craft beers are loaded with adjuncts these days. It is what it is. If you want to make a point to divide yourself away from other beer drinkers instead of finding something approachable for them to try, shame on you.

Did your first beer taste a little 'odd' a first? To me the first half of an adjunct lager just tastes weird. After that I agree it just beer and your taste buds get tuned-in and from then on they're good.

For what, for trying to understand why I don't like the beers I use to like and why some people have trouble when they first try craft? I'm trying to understand not divide.

What's there to understand? I think cap'n crunch tastes like shit now, but I used to eat it all the time. People's palates change man. Some people are more adventurous with what they try. I like all sorts of different foods, and don't hesitate to try something new. Some people like the same thing every day. Its just how it goes. My question is why do you care what other people drinnk?

You don't like the beers you used to like because now they taste like shit for you. Call it palate evolution, call it enlightenment. Either way, it is about drinking what tastes good to you, not ingredient composition.

No, it's not different with beer. Do you think a friend who only drinks AALs should drink a DIPA without complaint because you offered it to him and you're his friend? Or do you say, "OK man, I'll finish it" when he makes a face and tells you it tastes like sh*t? How come it only works one way? Isn't he your friend?

I think it's because you can use salt or adjunct beer on leeches to remove them from your skin.

It's not rude to turn down a beer when offered in most cases. However, if a friend who doesn't drink beer went out of their way to get some for you because you're coming over and they know you like beer, then it is rude and will probably hurt their feelings if you turn it down.

I mean seriously, people. AALs taste like shit? No, they don't. Well, some of them do, but so does a lot of craft beer. But Budweiser doesn't. PBR doesn't. Fresh Yuengling Lager doesn't. And if Budweiser was good enough for Harry Caray, then it's good enough for all of you.

    Excellent analogy OP. I'd agree.
If nothing else is around I'll drink a gansett lager but its not something I particularly miss

    1. After thinking about it further, if a person only drinks one brand or one style of beer (no matter what that is) then switching to another beer or style is going to taste bad, at first.
    2. I drink several different styles IPA, Stout, Porter, Belgian Ale, Dubble, Triple, Quadruple, etc. Now when I drink a Coors or Budweiser it really tastes bad, at first. I am afraid I am evolving into a beer snob and I don't really want to be a beer snob.

When I saw the thread title I immediately thought, "if I put miller lite on all my food it's going to make it taste awesome?"
